Absolutely classical trattoria in a great central location which we had to visit after its featuring on Rick Stein's Long Weekends many years ago! I reserved a table for quite late and the management were very happy for us to arrive a little later once we popped in and asked, so this is highly appreciated.

The menu is, like I say, very classical, and I'd say this is where Biassanot shone. Our Primi Piattis of Tortellini in broth and Tagliatelle al Ragu were really excellent, and gave us the true flavour of Bologna; not to be missed. The Secondi Piatti was also good, but not quite up to the high expectations of the first course. My rabbit dish was really nice, the meat was fresh and cooked pretty perfectly. My only minor criticism is that the meat and the accompanying sauce could have been more heavily seasoned to my taste, and I felt the dish was leaning a little too heavily on the, albeit delicious, cooked pancetta laced over the top, adding that dose of saltiness. My Dad enjoyed his Bolognese cutlet too, but also felt it was a tad bland. Both dishes also paired really nicely with the side order of grilled potatoes and aubergine.

This was accompanied by a really great bottle of wine from the local region of Emilia-Romagna, which paired really well with the meal and came from a great recommendation from our waitress. Finally, the espresso after the meal was a real highlight, a little boost of slightly sweet, bitter coffee was just what we needed to get us off our feet after a large, delicious meal!

Overall, this was a great meal, only very, very slightly let down by some underseasoning on our meat dishes. However, everything else from the bustling atmosphere to the attentive staff and the perfect pasta cannot be faulted, so Biassanot scrapes over the line for a five...

I’m a huge foodie and I’m very picky so hear me out when I say Trattoria dal Bissanot is one of the worst restaurants in Bologna.

It’s a local institution but the food is really mid. It tastes very home cooked, which is absolutely not what you want when you’re eating out. That’s the whole point isn’t it?

The tortelloni was very bland and was quite rustic. I definitely make better ones myself at home. The Cotoletta alla Bolognese arrived lukewarm and doesn’t appear to be freshly made. There was zero crispness or crunch with the coating, and the plate was just a greasy mess. The table bread was beyond stale and an absolute crime to be served in Europe (unless you’re talking about Scandinavia or Germany, then it would be considered gourmet).

When you’re surrounded by some of the best restaurants in Italy, this standard is really not up to par. Essentially, I had wasted an entire meal and all the calories for something I make better myself. Really not sure what the hype is about this place but it was hands down the worst meal I’ve ever had in Bologna. Pretty sure everyone who gives this a good rating has really bad taste in food and usually eats McDonald’s or are just straight up lying to themselves just because of the reputation...

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant, and it was all due to the incredibly rude waitress. I am an actual customer to this place and often went to eat. I am also Italian and therefore there was no misunderstandings what so ever on how the waitress behaved. My party and I arrived and were immediately ignored, even though there were plenty of empty tables. When we finally approached her to ask for a table, she didn’t even acknowledge us properly and dismissed us with a very rude attitude. She told us to “just leave” and gave us no reason why we couldn’t be seated. There was no professionalism or courtesy, and we felt completely unwelcome. We then informed her that we were happy to wait and come back if she would have booked us in. Needless to say, she extremely rudely told us to leave and told us there was no possibility for us to be seated, we left and will never return. Terrible customer service. She could have just explained us politely the situation but instead her attitude and her behaviour resulted in feeling throw out of the place with no reason. I was very surprised in a bad way I would never keep this kind of person at...

The rudeness stands out amongst the friendly and welcoming services I encountered in Bologna. Waiter was rude and passive aggressive, just to make his point about the order items should be ordered - yeah, he was extremely particular about that, to the point he refused to bring the starter as we decided to add it after ordering the mains. Simply opted for missing that revenue. When the manager brought us the bill, we noticed a coffee had been charged although it never came. We mentioned it and without saying a word, the manager storms off, clearly upset. Confused, I went after him to make sure he understood we didn’t want the coffee but just to be removed from the bill, as simple as that. The manager then was extremely rude, gave me attitude, loudly saying he had already cancelled the coffee and, complacently, I shouldn’t be worried - as if it was my fault. The food is ok. I hope they can rethink how they treat their customers.
