In summary, the restaurant offers average food with small portions, but its cleanliness and space leave much to be desired. While the staff is polite and friendly, their lack of adherence to basic hygiene standards, typical of Bolzano, is concerning.
The dining area is cramped, with an excessive number of tables squeezed into a limited space. Tables meant for two are often forced to accommodate three, and those for three are used for four, resulting in an uncomfortable dining experience. This practice, though common for maximizing customer capacity, reaches absurd levels here, leaving barely enough room for the dishes, even with a modest order. Additionally, if dining in close proximity to strangers is your preference, this establishment caters to that desire.
The lack of cleanliness extends beyond the tables, with unclean pillows on the seats and an unsanitary bathroom emitting a foul odor. Positioned uncomfortably close to the bathroom door downstairs are two tables, seemingly designated for the staff, alongside "clean" dishes, cutlery, and glasses placed perilously near the unhygienic restroom. Witnessing individuals exit the restroom and directly handle tableware without proper sanitation measures is appalling.
Moreover, the handling of food by the "main" waiter raises significant concerns. Simultaneously managing cash transactions and serving dishes, with unwashed hands frequently touching the food, reflects a blatant disregard for food safety protocols.
It's worth noting that one of our party members, accustomed to consuming spicy Indian cuisine, experienced stomach discomfort throughout the day following our meal here, although this could be coincidental.
In conclusion, while the restaurant boasts courteous staff, its disregard for cleanliness and hygiene standards greatly diminishes the dining experience and raises serious...
Read moreI really want to like this place — they are one of the few restaurants in Bolzano with labelled vegan options. However, after dining here three times and receiving non-vegan food each time, I unfortunately can’t trust it anymore.
There seems to be a major misunderstanding among the staff about what “vegan” actually means, or a lack of communication about which orders are vegan.
The first time, I ordered a vegan chai tea. I received a chai with milk, and assuming it was a plant-based milk, I drank it. When I ordered a second one and asked to double-check, they told me it had been cow’s milk both times.
The second time, I ordered a vegan curry (vegetables and tofu), specifying I was vegan. It arrived with parmesan sprinkled on top. I didn’t complain and just ate it.
Today, I ordered the “Varanasi Vegan” — an item that has no meat option and is clearly marked vegan. I told the server I was vegan. When it arrived, it looked a little odd, as it came with a white creamy sauce on the side, but I trusted it. Unfortunately, after one big bite, I realized it was chicken.
They apologized, remade the meal (this time vegan), but still charged me for it. The dish also came with naan bread, which they previously told me was not vegan.
As we were leaving, they offered my friend and I a free mango lassi as an apology. However, it was topped with pistachios — and unfortunately, I am allergic. I couldn’t drink it, and no alternative was offered.
Please do not label items as vegan if they are not reliably vegan. I unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant to...
Read moreI LOVE this place! It is my daughter & I's go to restaurant for lunch when in Bolzano. (Which is about once a month, sometimes more). I am British in origin (but have lived 25 yrs in South Tirol), so you might not be surprised to know that I LOVE indian food!! (I cook it weekly at home too) And this is probably the BEST in this region. It is VERY good. And also a BIG winner for us, are the VEGAN options! Try the Vegan Thali, it is super good value for money. (Only available at lunchtimes btw). The service is always great & I love the open plan kitchen where you can see the amazing chefs at work and almost see right into their tandoor! It also means all those amazing aromas come right out to you, and even into the street! My mouth waters in anticipation as I walk up to the place!!! It's not a big place, and does get very full, but we have always managed to find a space, and have never needed to book. Portions sizes are perfect in my opinion & the prices are very good- especially at lunch. Dinner prices are a little more, but still great. And now we MUST come back to try the Vegan Brunch one weekend- the menu looks amazing! Keep up the great work guys,...
