La Grotta — Restaurant in Cortona

Very disappointing. Ordered t-bone (not the Bistecca Fiorentina we know and love in Florence) and it came in record time. Practically cold and the fat not rendered or cooked at all, so inedible. Veggies were also cold. Waiter brought open wine bottle and sloshed the end of it into my glass - as the restaurant only opens at night and we were first in, the wine was presumably from day before. No-one came back to us again to see if all was ok or if we needed anything. Completely ignored till we asked for the bill then waiter rushed over with dessert menus. Went to pay and waiter was inattentive to point of rudeness, no please, thankyou, did you enjoy your meal, goodnight, etc. Needless to say we didn't tip. Prices were reasonable but the difference in service between La Grotta and what we're accustomed to in Florence was ridiculous. Waiter had very poor attitude, unless you were a local or American. Certainly the worst meal and service we've had in Italy to date, and my husband is Italian so we're here a lot....

Year after year we come back to La Grotta to be reunited with the same nice people and excellent food for adults and kids 👍Just an update of our previous review to confirm that La Grotta keeps on being very enjoyable year after year. The food is simply fabulous. From the Prosciutto e melone and Smoked pasta (divine!) House red wine is cheap (8 euro for liter i think). Creme de caramel, tiramisu both so creamy. White linen service. One of the best meals we’ve had in tuscany and better than other restaurants in Cortona. They are not open for long each day but worth fitting this one in! Call for a...
