We had the most incredible dining experience, from the moment we set foot in the restaurant the service was impeccable. We popped in on the spur of the moment with no reservation but the restaurant is large enough to accommodate this. We were expecting good value having sighted the prices on the menu outside (considerably cheaper than the average in Florence and Piemonte where we had previously eaten) but were absolutely blown away by the quality. Unexpected bonus was the delicious rosé Prosecco to start and amazing appetiser which were complimentary. We shared a primi and were served two impeccably presented plates (probably more than half the dish we paid for). Not only quantity but quality, the saffron, porcini and truffle risotto was our favourite dish in Italy bar none. All dishes were executed perfectly and service was attentive throughout, despite language barriers. We were also offered a complimentary glass of desert wine when only one of us could fit in desert (which included a deserter wine for only 7 euro). The wine list was varied and includes budget friendly options which were equally as exquisite. Highly recommend. I nearly left my scarf at the table on departure and the waiter hurried after me to wrap it around my shoulders and offered a hug to farewell....
Read moreI made a reservation for outside, just to then be told upon arrival that they don’t take reservations for outside and we had to sit inside.
The female waitress was not only incredibly condescending but also just flat out rude. She refused to take our drink orders unless we ordered food first. Which also just seems odd? In what restaurant do you order food before drinks??
We got an amuse bouche by the kitchen, which was delicious! The overall food however was rather mediocre, tho they give you lots of free drinks. The food itself was rather bland in flavour and below average especially in this area! I am incredibly sorry to say but the tiramisu was perhaps the worst I have ever had.
On top of that the meal was sadly very Influenced by the waitress, as she would continuously made comments about us and gave us stares until she realised I also spoke Italian. From then on she was clearly trying to make up for her behaviour beforehand.
Unfortunately cannot recommend at all, which is probably also why the restaurant only had 3 tables occupied inside. The food servings in a 6 course menu were huge, so at least you get your money’s worth that way. Just sadly lacking in...
Read moreA Memorable Dining Experience at Preludio in Cortona
During our recent visit to Cortona, we had the pleasure of dining at Preludio not once, but twice — an experience that exceeded our expectations in every way.
We sampled both of the chef's tasting menus: "Beginning of an Opera" and "Chef’s Score." Each dish was a masterpiece, not only in flavor but also in presentation. The freshness of the local ingredients, the creativity in every course, and the artful plating made for a dining experience that was both refined and delightful.
Our meals were perfectly paired with local Cortona wines, elevating the experience further. The recommended Viognier, a worthy match to a fine Condrieu, and the Syrah, comparable to a distinguished Hermitage, were both exquisite and reasonably priced.
Many reviewers have already noted that Preludio is deserving of a Michelin star, and after our two unforgettable dining experiences, we wholeheartedly agree. The quality of the food, the attention to detail, and the outstanding service make it a standout dining destination.
If you find yourself in Cortona, don’t miss the chance to savor the exceptional culinary creations...
