Ristorante Il Cacciatore — Restaurant in Cortona

Amazingly lucky.

While walking in Cortona looking for a restaurant, an elderly lady offered to take us to Il Cacciatore, boy were we lucky.

The food was absolutely exquisite, the dishes were authenticly Tuscan and the staff helped us pair them with delicious regional wines. We knew we had found a gem when locals kept coming in for orders to go.

Ate one of the best rib eyes in my entire life, from a wild boar, after seeing two local tables order it, the pasta was perfect and the entrees devine.

As if it wasn't enough, the service was friendly and the atmosphere welcoming, so welcoming in fact that we felt like regulars. Sat talking for a half hour after the meal, it was a perfect ending to a wonderful day.

My daughter and I had a lovely lunch here on a day trip to Cortona. We were especially looking for somewhere with gluten free options as my daughter has celiac disease. This was the best option we have so far found in Italy. What a well run ristorante with such helpful and accommodating staff. The waitress explained the options carefully, the food was fresh and delicious and they were happy for us to share two primi piatti, which was enough for lunch for us. I wanted lamb one night and the hotel reception recommended this restaurant. Just around the corner from the central plaza of cortona, we found the restaurant tucked away. The apps were great but the when the main course came, the lamb was so fresh and so properly prepared, I wish I had ordered more.
