I recently visited Caffe San Firenze with my friends and unfortunately had an extremely disheartening encounter with the manager. The incident left me compelled to share my experience as it was marred by what I can only describe as rude and racist behavior.
Upon entering the cafe, I was excited to explore the menu and enjoy a pleasant atmosphere. However, my enthusiasm quickly waned when the manager, who seemed to have formed an unwarranted assumption about our financial capacity based on my appearance, made an offensive comment that left me both shocked and offended.
In a moment that should have been characterized by hospitality and warmth, the manager callously remarked, "You know the prices here, right?" This insinuation was not only tactless but also carried a clear implication that people of my nationality, or perhaps appearance, would struggle to afford items on the menu.
This incident is a stark example of discriminatory behavior that has no place in any establishment, let alone a space like a cafe. Such comments perpetuate harmful stereotypes, create an unwelcome environment, and tarnish the reputation of the establishment.
I believe it is crucial for businesses to foster inclusivity and treat all customers with the same level of respect, regardless of their background. This experience at Caffe San Firenze was not only disappointing but also a reminder of the importance of addressing and rectifying such prejudiced behavior.
I sincerely hope that the management takes immediate action to rectify this issue, reevaluate staff training on diversity and inclusion, and ensure that no customer has to endure such an unpleasant encounter in the future. Discrimination has no place in our society, and it certainly should not be tolerated within the confines of a cafe that should be a haven for...
Read moreHaven't had such a poor and horrible experience in a very long time.
I went there to share a cassata and a Moroccan tea with my girlfriend. After placing our order, we got the cassata almost right away but with no tea. I asked about it to the barman, and they told me that the tea was going to be ready in a few minutes. Fast forward 20 minutes and still nothing. I then asked about it again, and they looked at me all puzzled and confused, wondering what tea I was talking about. I told them once again that I was still waiting for the tea that I had ordered over 20 minutes ago. They apologized and told me to wait just a couple of more minutes. At that point, I thanked them and said not to bother. I paid the cassata and left on the spot.
Besides the horrible service, the food wasn't good either. The cassata was absolutely terrible! I'm writing this review in English, but I'm Italian, raised in Napoli and often travelled to Messina. The cassata in this place was rock hard. We couldn't even slice it with a knife. We had to repeatedly hit it before being able to kinda break it apart. The flavor was completely disappointing. It just tasted of sugar, nothing else. No flavor of ricotta (the star of this food) or candied fruit at all. It was basically like eating a hard cold block of frosting. They also made us pay 2.50 euros for that! I've had much better cassate for far less.
I have rarely left a place so angry and disappointed, but Caffè San Firenze won it all. It is a colossal waste of time and money. Horrible service, terrible food, and unreasonable prices. This was a 0/10 experience. I'll definitely discourage this place to...
Read moreGreat service, great coffee and pastries, great shisha.
This cafe transforms from a welcoming cafe during the day for coffee and a pastry to a great bar during the evening. During the day if you’re in a rush you can grab something quickly for take away but if you have time to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere it’s definitely worth the visit. The selection of pastries is also rather large and you’re sure to find something you’ll really enjoy! The building is historic and has quite a few posters depicting the floods that happened in Florence many years ago including in Cafe San Firenze. Yet this historic cafe is still standing!
By night the cafe transforms into a wonderful bar offering a wide range of cocktails and if you can’t find something on the menu you’d like to drink the great bartenders will make something for you. To go one step further there is also a wide range of teas available which are also great.
This cafe also serves shisha every evening and is one of the only places in Florence which does so which makes it stand out from a lot of other bars in Florence. They have a wide range of flavors and are also willing to explain it to you and how it works if you haven’t tried it before.
The staff here is also exceptional. They are very attentive to all customers, even when it is busy and they do not forget who is waiting for a table which can happen frequently in busy places. They will always try their absolute best to try to find you a table. The staff are also extremely friendly and always greet you with a smile and ask how you are - which can go a long way when you are a foreigner living...
