Of all the restaurants I have eaten at in Florence, Trattoria Alfredo offers the best and most authentic Florentine experience. My family and I tried the Pici al Pomodoro, Lasagna, Osso Buco, Tripa alla Florentina, Insalata Caprese, Tiramisu, and Panna Cotta.
Food:
The Lasagna was by far the best lasagna in Florence, perhaps in Italy. It was quite meaty and rich with flavor. The Pici al Pomodoro was great as well! Some pomodoro pastas that you get in Italy are either too sour or bland. Here, the pomodoro pasta was quite balanced and well-constructed. The Tripa alla Florentina was a hearty dish with exquisite tripe and a sauce that you can choose to eat with bread or on its own.
For the desserts, the Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, and the Mille Foigle were incredible! The tiramisu was creamy with hints of coffee flavor. Eating the Panna Cotta was a premium and luxurious experience. It had enough structure and rigidity to hold its own shape and keep itself from disintegrating. At the same time, it was silky smooth and creamy rivalling even the best soybean curds or milk custards that any of the best Asian establishments could ever offer. Both of the desserts hit the sweet spot, pun intended. Neither was too sweet nor too bland. Each was flanked by the perfect accompaniment, coffee hints for the tiramisu and a fresh berry sauce for the panna cotta.
Service:
The service was timely, accurate, and warm. Any time I need something, there's always someone ready to address the concern. Each time I asked for something, it would just arrive before I could finish thinking about it. Not much more you can ask for in terms of service really.
Atmosphere:
It almost feels like you get transported all the way back to Florence circa 1500 at the height of the Renaissance. It's a cozy place, nothing like some of the "fancy" and "posh" Italian establishments where you feel like everyone has to just have a stick up theirs. Everyone is friendly and you could just go ahead and keep on ordering and eating for the entirety of the day (as much as your wallet will allow).
Price:
There is something for everyone here. Whether you're on a budget or if you feel like you want to splurge on a meal, Trattoria Alfredo has something incredible for you. From the pastas and the trippa to the bisteccas, you are sure to find something that satiates your...
Read moreUnfortunately I can't recommend this place. We got super bad service. There was Italian menu of the day and, as we don't speak Italian, we were asking the waiter about it. We didn't get any explanations or recommendations. Waiter was not nice. Forgot to bring us ordered beer and cutlery. When we were trying to call him twice he ignored us on purpose while talking with his Italian guests. We were waiting long time to get the bill. Waiter was doing everything else just not bringing us the bill. At the end he was trying to trick us for 5 euro (gave too less change but I realized it and said him - he didn't even have a look to check how much he gave me back, he automatically gave 5 euros back so I assume it was not his mistake and he did it on purpose). We are sad we got such a bad service and such a bad experience on the very first day in Florence. We don't know why we were treated like this but we assume this is because we are Polish and waiter thought we are Russians and everybody knows what is current political situation... Other guests were treated ok, they were even getting some small thank-you drink with the bill. We didn't. Food was very so-so, nothing special. Waiting time was long. Totally don't...
Read moreWe sat down to have lunch at Trattoria Alfredo on September 13th 2023. One of the waiters came over and asked if we are there for dinner, we say no for lunch, he asked what would we like and my wife says “ like a sandwich or something lite” and this waiter says to her “this is Florence, not New York. We do not serve sandwiches we serve dinner. This is not New York.” Then grabs the menus says bye bye and walks away. Who the hell does this guy think he’s talking to?!?! “This is florence”, like we need this Jackass to tell us where we are. If we are there at 11:30 am why are you asking if we are there for dinner? He seemed to have something against the word sandwich or New York, lol Stronzo! But with that being said we walk down the street and had some nice antipasto and a margarita pizza with a couple of glasses of rosé an amaretto Disaronno on the rocks and pistachio tartuffo at Osteria de' Peccatori. The waiters were friendly and the food was exactly what we needed to bring back the good vibes we had before that D-bag of a waiter at...
