La Tenda Rossa — Restaurant in Florence

I'll start by saying the food was excellent; however, I'm not convinced they gave us the full weight of meat we asked for. The waiter was young and friendly, even seemingly trying to act cool in front of me and my friend (young tourists with tattoos), but it was clear that his agenda was to get as much money out of us as possible. He was pushing the more expensive steak (88€/kg) by downplaying and even belittling the standard Fiorentina (65€/kg). We took his advice and asked for 1kg to which he replied "what? For two people?! That isn't very much! People normally order 1.2kg." I had previously eaten in other restaurants in Florence and ordered 1kg in two people and it was more than enough, huge even, and on another occasion we ordered 1.2kg in three people, which was also plentiful. These other places also weighed the meat in front of the table before it was cooked, which I believe is standard procedure. The waiter's attitude changed to a grumpy and unfriendly one when we insisted we only wanted 1kg. It was not weighed in front or us (for obvious reasons), and what arrived was about half the size we were expecting. We both said we could have easily eaten one each. Supposedly one whole kilogram. Of rich steak. At lunch time. It was absolutely delicious, but we definitely got ripped off on the weight. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos because there was nothing spectacular worth taking a photo of, and I would have been embarrassed to tell people how much we paid for something that size. What poor service. Having done research for an anniversary meal, I trusted the great reviews on Google. When we arrived, the waiters were scrambling for a table even though I had made a reservation, our food arrived far too quickly, within 5 minutes after ordering, and that’s without our drinks arriving first. After complaining about receiving our food before our drinks, jokes were made and rushing around to make amends to solve the issue increased. After almost finishing a plate of mediocre and overpriced pasta, we were asked if we wanted cheese with it; too little too late. We then asked for the bill as we wanted to get out as fast as we could. We were then plied with limoncello shots and free dessert as an afterthought, supposedly to cover their tracks? I know im in Florence and should realise its a tourist-driven city, but regardless i do expect to have a simple baseline of service and to not expect to feel like they want me out of there to clear the table. I’m sure many people will be happy here, and maybe not recognise it as an overpriced tourist trap with impersonal service and ok food. I would stay clear. There are far superior restaurants with better management, better service, much better food and they won’t leave you with a bad taste...

I recently visited this restaurant, and while the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, my experience was somewhat underwhelming. The menu was notably smaller than usual (Christmas Eve menu) offering only a limited selection of dishes.What caught my attention was their 30% discount promotion, which initially seemed like a great deal. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed that the prices were still higher than what I would typically pay for a comparable meal at the same restaurant outside of the promotion. It felt like the discount was more of a marketing tactic to lure customers in, rather than a genuine price reduction (higher prices for that day and the discount was only for the first order ,so the extra drinks and desserts were out of the discount ).The food itself was decent—nothing extraordinary, but still well-prepared. The pasta was cooked properly, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. In the end, while the discount was nice, it didn't quite make up for the higher-than-expected prices and limited menu. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a casual meal, but don't expect any major culinary surprises.Given the perfect ratings online, I expected something much more exceptional.
