After being recommended to go here by our hotel hostess, we were told it would be the best pizza in Florence (perhaps even Italy).
La Bussola itself is tucked neatly away from the loud crowds, but is incredibly easy to find and quite straight forward if you have a map on you.
La Bussola hosts both an extensive wine list and an extensive range of pizzas, all of which look amazing. You can stay for pizza or just for the bar if you like, and they also do take out if you prefer to eat in the comfort of your room (though why would you do that?!).
I had the quattro stagioni (ham, olives, artichoke and mushrooms) and my friends had the quattro pizzica (spicy salami and chilli). The quattro stagioni, despite having the peculiar ingredient of artichoke, was absolutely delicious. The dough was cooked to perfection and maintained the softness that made it possible to cut up and actually eat! Something I have struggled throughout my Italian-pizza travels. The ingredients all tasted fresh and complimented eachother perfectly. My friends found the quattro pizzica perfectly spicy and for those who can take it, there is also chilli oil available.
I also had the tiramisu, which was rather delicious, though i would have preferred grated chocolate on the top instead of what seemed like crushed up chocolate biscuit? The tequila sunrise I also had, could have definitely been better.
The restaurant and outside area are very nice and the inside looks quite high end (cloth napkins!!). Overall it gives off a good impression and is a place where you can splash out and make a charming evening of it. The waiters were friendly and helpful and i would definitely recommend La...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped into this charming little restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. The warm ambiance, soft lighting, and cozy décor created an inviting atmosphere that instantly made us feel at ease. But it wasn’t just the setting that won us over—it was everything. The service? Impeccable. Franchesca was attentive without being overbearing, genuinely friendly, and seemed to anticipate our needs before we even voiced them. It's rare to experience service that feels both professional and personal, but they’ve struck the perfect balance here. The food was incredible! I had the seafood pasta served al dente with an abundance of seafood & my husband had the pizza Their wood-fired pizza oven was a standout. The pizza was cooked to perfection in a traditional oven that you can actually see from the dining room. The crust had that ideal balance of crisp and chew, with just the right hint of smokiness that only a real wood-fired oven can deliver. It’s clear that a lot of passion and craft goes into every pie. You could tell that only fresh, high-quality ingredients were used across the board, and that a lot of care went into every plate. For dessert my husband had the amaretto reduction tiramisu & I had the fresh strawberries & gelato. The amaretto reduction tiramisu was outstanding! The strawberries were sweet & delicious. The gelato added a creamy contrast that was decadent. Whether you're looking for a quiet dinner, a date night spot, or just a place to treat yourself, this restaurant is more than worth the visit. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after the meal is over. We’ve already booked our next...
Read moreWe stopped here on our last night in Florence expecting a nice dinner and a beautiful evening - based on the prior reviews we had seen. The food was fairly good, but the prices were slightly high for Florence. However, the service at the end of the night completely ruined any hope of a reasonable rating. I have NEVER (repeat . . . NEVER) been treated so poorly in Italy in my many, many, many visits. Despite having half a bottle of expensive wine remaining and our desert not even having been delivered yet, the lights were turned off outside, all of the chairs and tables around us were stacked up, and they even stacked tables touching ours so that I was literally not able to get out of my seat when we did want to leave. Our bill was delivered together with the desert, despite not asking for it. And then the waitress stood behind us and watched us eat our desert basically saying “get out”. This was at 10:30pm (NOT late in Italy) and while all of the restaurants around us were still serving people. It is hard to describe how ridiculous the scene was while we tried to quickly finish some of our last food and slam our 120 Euro bottle of wine. Tasteless and completely unprofessional. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had and therefore felt it needed a review . . . AVOID,...
