Our group of friends visited Florence for the day on holiday and decided to dine at Maddina Florence Tandoori Halal Restaurant. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were both accommodating and attentive throughout the meal. The food was exceptional — flavorful, well-prepared, and reflective of the rich Pakistani culinary tradition. The hospitality shown during our visit gave us a sense of comfort and made the experience feel almost like a family gathering.
However, the positive impression quickly turned sour when it came time to settle the bill. To our shock, we were presented with a total of €229, an amount that felt disproportionately high for five people — especially when compared to similar meals we've enjoyed in the UK or elsewhere, which would typically come to around to half this price.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered that we had been charged for several dishes we never ordered. We had assumed these items were complimentary, offered as part of the renowned generosity often associated with Pakistani hospitality. Unfortunately, this was not the case. What we believed to be tokens of goodwill were, in fact, opportunistic upsells masked by a friendly demeanor.
The pricing of many dishes was also unreasonably inflated, bordering on extortionate. It felt as though we had been taken advantage of under the guise of warmth and care, leaving us with a strong sense of being manipulated and overcharged.
To add insult to injury, what we assume was the owner had the audacity to personally request that each of us leave a 5-star review — despite our clear discomfort and disillusionment with how we were treated.
This experience has left us disappointed and wary. While the food and initial service were commendable, the lack of transparency and ethical customer treatment overshadowed everything. I hope this review helps others make an...

Read moreBased on my experience, this restaurant is worthless. It is nowhere near to a genuine Indian restaurant as they claim to be. Since this was our first time here, we sought the waiter's advice and ordered dal makhani, mixed vegetables' curry, lachcha parantha and sweet lassi. The dal makhani and mixed vegetables' curry tasted rotten, the lachcha parantha was like a thick pizza base with oil applied on top and the lassi was like sweetened water, flavored with a little bit of curd! The waiter also suggested to go with samosa as a starter, mentioning that it is really good. Even the samosa tasted rotten! It seems they prepare these items once in a while (maybe once every 3 days or so) and just heat those before serving to the customers. The waiter was pretty rude and clumsy. We had to remind multiple times for the bill and eventually he prepared an incorrect bill. All this added to the bad experience. The overall price was EUR 49,50 for 2 persons which is super expensive for such a rotten experience. There is nothing in our whole experience to write a positive comment about. Not...
