Osteria dell'Olio, tucked away in the San Giovanni neighborhood of Florence, is a culinary haven that transports diners to the heart of Tuscany. This unassuming trattoria, with its rustic charm and warm hospitality, offers a menu that celebrates the region's rich culinary heritage.
On a recent visit, my dining companion and I were delighted by the simplicity and elegance of the dishes. The ravioli, a house specialty, were pillowy pockets of pasta filled with a delicate ricotta and spinach mixture, bathed in a fragrant sage butter sauce. Each bite was a testament to the chef's mastery of fresh, seasonal ingredients.
The octopus salad, a vibrant composition of tender octopus, crisp vegetables, and a tangy citrus dressing, was a refreshing counterpoint to the richness of the pasta. The octopus, perfectly cooked, was melt-in-your-mouth tender, while the vegetables provided a satisfying crunch.
The wine list, a curated selection of Tuscan and Italian labels, is a testament to the restaurant's commitment to showcasing the region's diverse terroirs. Our sommelier, knowledgeable and passionate, guided us to a Sangiovese that paired beautifully with our meal.
Osteria dell'Olio is more than just a restaurant; it is an experience. From the moment you step through the door, you are enveloped in a warm embrace of Tuscan hospitality. The staff, attentive and welcoming, create an atmosphere that is both convivial and refined.
In a city renowned for its culinary excellence, Osteria dell'Olio stands out as a beacon of authenticity and passion. It is a place where tradition and innovation converge, resulting in a dining experience that is both memorable and satisfying.

Read more10.9.22/ it was terrible. Most terrible the unbelievable unfriendly waiter, an older guy. No friendly word, no greetings, as we ordered only 2 x pasta and an open wine. Instead to the neighbor table where a couple from Austraila had ordered a bottle of wine, he almost overrolled himself with kiss-as-conversations. He obiously gave friendlyness according to what guests consumed.
Most incredible and should never happen: a young black guy (obviously American accent) sitting on a table in the back was treated by him - so nasty (wording: what do you want, but very rude, so rude that I thought to interfere) and he made him move, while he sat there already the whole time, when we were there, to the most ugly table in the very back of the outside area, as a German couple apporached, and with a hand wiping - he made the black American young guy move, obviously racisted oriented, obviously not wanting the black young Guest sitting in his service. His wording, almost yelling at him to move the table, made me shiver.
When the guy then had the courage to move to the table next, which was free, he yelled at him, why he was moving the table, and made him go back.
I almost thought to call the police of his racist acting.
though not enough, when I went inside to search for the bathroom, I saw him further yelling at the younger personal, in a loud, screeming tone, about to clean the tabels, and I said to them - why do you work for such a devil, Firenze is full of restaurants, go find yourself annother job, and never let nobody treat you like that.
The most terrible restaurant/place I have ever experienced in Florence. NEVER go there again.
Fire the waiter. Change concept. SERVICE : worst I ever saw. Plus super racist - even in public waiter.
Does not work nowadays. TERRIBLE place. Only for very white people who have no idea what Italien Service and Food could...
Read moreIn so many years in Italy, here for the first time we ate food that did not discredit the reputation of Italy. The portions were too small and fake. Lasagna in an ice cream bowl, without any sauce or cheese. Pizza without the taste of pizza!!! Antipasti of two small pieces of baguette with a little olive paste and 5 pieces of prosciutto!! The octopus tasted old! 60 Euros for food that is not worth 5. People, do not waste your time with this dump. On top of everything, their salt shaker was not screwed on and was broken and poured onto the pizza. I asked for ice, they brought them a small glass without even a spoon, we had to use a fork. The menu is too meager and small for a restaurant in the center of Florence. I hope the owners take matters into their own hands. Because the owner thinks that having an establishment in the center of Florence is a big deal. Here's what I can tell him. Your prices are high for the quantity you offer. The quality is beyond criticism - lasagna in a crème caramel bowl, consisting of a little lasagna crust and a little tomato sauce - there is no béchamel sauce, as well as any cheese. This product they offer is anything but lasagna. The owner makes a comment on what prices we can afford. Maybe we can even buy the entire establishment along with its broken salt shakers, which when you add salt, all the salt spills out onto your plate. The comment we gave is not pure evil, but the very truth. We hope that other tourists and locals will not make this mistake...
