This place is ok. They made a lot of mistakes but eventually one member of staff stormed in, a valiant hero with a deep understanding of the meaning of hospitality and service, and absolutely made amendments for his colleagues’ unprofessional conduct. Here is why:
We made a reservation and arrived at 10:30 PM last Thursday Oct 3rd.. we made note that they close at 12:00 midnight.
We placed an order, the server bought a fraction of what we ordered, nothing else arrived. We waited patiently, eventually I walked downstairs to ask if they forgot our order. It turns out they had. I repeated our order, and staff entered it into the system.
No one ever came to check on our table or ask how it was going. We were literally on site for an hour sitting at this table.
Eventually, I saw a mesera walk by to collect plates. I asked if it would be possible to order dessert, because I understand the kitchen would soon close (because we had sat an hour waiting for their service which had never came).
She said there was still time to order, there was no problem, and passed us the dessert menus.
Again, no one ever showed up to take our order. So much time passed, that I worried they would start to refuse our order (“we’re closed now!”), so I walked downstairs to ask the nearest waiter if I could place an order.
The dude sighed, looked at his watch, and said “what do you want, the fagiole and verduras??” (This was the order they had forgotten an hour ago). I said is there a problem? And bro said “we’re closing now”.
And so I gave up catering in English/Italian and exploded in Spanish language, telling them we don’t deserve this attitude we’ve been here 1.5 hours waiting for someone to take our order.
Luckily, this guy Angel is Tri-lingual, and also a super profesional person. While his colleagues were giving me dirty looks, he heard what I was saying and told them to respect our complaints, that we were correct and the team had failed significantly to offer professional service.
Angel made it a point to seat us again, be sure to generously fulfill our dessert requests free of charge, offered us dessert wines, asked our apologies and acknowledged they had made a mistake.
My TL;DR: reprimand everyone else (especially the server that took our orders, never entered them into the system and then left early for the night) and give Angel a gargantuan raise, because he seemed to be the only one on staff carrying the level of service and quality one would expect of the outstanding legacy that is the Lorenzo de ‘Medici culinary...
Read moreOur worst experience in Florence, and indeed in the whole of Italy. My wife and I stopped outside the restaurant, where we were informed that the entire menu was gluten-free. We were seated at a table where the menu was in large letters on the plate that it was gluten-free. We ordered our pizza and after the first bite we felt something was wrong. I asked if it was definitely gluten free pizza and the answer was NO! I told the waiter that was not what they said at the door. I was told I should have say to him because he was the waiter, not the other two waiters who were still at the table... Anyway, I said I'll pay for this, just get me another two gluten free pizzas. A little bit later he came whom misinformed us and said we didn't have to pay for the first pizzas. They brought out our already gluten-free pizzas, then the other waiter said we had to pay for our first pizza because it wasn't their fault, but he promised we wouldn't have to pay a service charge.... The bottom of their pizza was burnt, the middle of the was raw... we were really hungry so we ate it except for the raw parts. Then came the bill, brought out by a third waiter. The bill had FOUR service charges on it! I wanted to get it all over with, I paid it... On the way out, our head waiter stopped us and said "we're leaving without paying?" And we had to explain that we had already paid! There are many good restaurants in Florence, choose another place! If we are not careful they will feed us pizza made with normal...
Read moreWow! Yes, wow! Fantastic foods at fair prices. I had the mixed cheese with a very remarkable ramekin of local honey that must source from some fantastic flowers nearby. Absolutely the best honey I have ever had, and it goes extremely well with the cheeses, too. I also had the crostini tuscan style. Great flavor but a bit too much topping. This was easily solved by taking some off and placing on the regular table bread 😃
I only had the first course after the antipasti dishes. I had the 4 cheese gnocchi, and they were melt in your mouth fantastic. The cheese sauce is so good, but I did add some extra parmesano before tasting as I am almost an addict for the real deal 😆
I have ordered the grilled pork and oven lasagna to go. If I get the chance, I will update the review.
The area is full of restaurants, and I assume they compete very closely with each other? It shows in the quality and the value here for sure. As in Bologna, I think it is difficult to have anything but a great meal in Florence with locally established restaurants. For taste and value, I highly recommend...
