I’ve been to other Michelin restaurants over the years, and to me our meal at Verso was up there with the rest, but also in its own memorable way unique.
First, the atmosphere was elegant but not pretentious. We were greeted warmly and treated warmly through the entire experience. The kitchen side seating was a delight. The kitchen chefs and the table service crew worked together like a fine watch, but all the while making us feel like we were in welcoming surroundings. I’ve been to some Michelin restaurants that make me feel like I’m in a library, or in a surgical theater, or in a mother superior’s office, but nothing like this at Verso. Polished but pleasant.
The food was amazingly good. My wife and I liked that the menu focused on local ingredients and sourcing when possible. Watching the skill in the preparation and plating was a joy. This is not one of those fou-fou micro food restaurants. You get nice servings of each dish. But what might be a bit of a surprise (and delight to some) are the unannounced additional small dishes that are served along with your order. Honestly, it our case we felt like we needed to be rolled out of the restaurant when we were done, but I wouldn’t give up one bit of it. Just be aware - think twice before ordering! 😄
I was tempted to give this fine place four stars and not five, however, for one small reason. As we were finishing our first course, I finished before my wife, and a nearby server came and took my plate and service away before my wife was done. For any restaurant, let alone a two star Michelin location, this is unacceptable. I think it was noticed, however, as all of the following services were cleared only when we were both done. So kudos to Verso for being on their game, and kudos to my wife for convincing me it was not enough of an issue for me to remove a star. This place is just...
Read moreWith the achievement of two Michelin stars within just ten months from its opening, this restaurant probably has some of the most sought-after reservations in Italy. Despite emailing them weeks in advance, we were still on the waiting list when we finally landed in Milan after a 13hr flight from Singapore. Perhaps it was our relentless outreach that included an attempt to gatecrash without a reservation, we eventually struck gold and ended up having a blast on the very last night before we had to leave Milan.
From careful execution of the exquisite dishes by the Chefs to the excellent wine pairing recommendations from maître and sommelier, Mr Marco Matta, no detail was left to chance and the entire dining experience from start to finish (4hrs) was a joy to behold. We have tried several Michelin star restaurants and this was hands down one of the best experiences. Thank you once again, to the impeccable team at Verso especially Marco and Victoria, for squeezing us in, and taking such good care of us throughout the evening.
Definitely one of the highlights of our first trip to Italy and we look forward to dining at...
Read moreEasily the worst Michelin star restaurant we’ve been to, and one of the overall worst dining experiences period. A group of 4 of us dined here in April of 2024. We went down an elevator from the Main Street to get to the restaurant promptly at our reservation time. Not only was no one there to greet us at the door, but we stood outside a locked door for 15 minutes past when the restaurant opened. They didn’t apologize or even acknowledge that we had stood there and we were taken inside to a completely empty restaurant. My wife asked if they did a wine pairing, standard fare at a place like this, and they scoffed and said absolutely not. The food throughout the night was not memorable other than a barely above average kind crab pasta. The service left us feeling uncomfortable and cold throughout the night and the chef felt like he didn’t want to be there and was obviously rude in front of us to his coworkers. I would never recommend this place and caution all who visit Milan. There are so many better restaurants with infinitely better atmosphere. Don’t let the reviews fool you like we were. Two stars...
