Gran Caffè Cimmino San Carlo — Restaurant in Naples

I am a black middle aged American of African decent (black). This was my second time in Naples. I did not get to experience the local vibe and get a feel for the culture the last time I was there. At the end of the hop on hop off tour, the caffe across the street was suggested. Upon entering the caffe, I needed to use the restroom. I was told I could only use it if a purchase was made. This was not a problem. I planned on purchasing anyway! I have a weakness for Italian pastries and cakes! Infact, I tried several pastry shops during my tours in Italy, but that's another story. After using the restroom, I returned upstairs to order my pastries. The lady behind the counter was not friendly when I inquired about cookie fillings. I ignored this and continued on. Another was ordering at the sametime I was. She informed me that one of my pastries was placed in her bag on top of the pastry display. I went to retrieve the cookie without touching HER pastry in the process and it slipped out of the slick tissue and went flaying across the floor. I looked at the lady and she looked at me and hunched her shoulders with a face of your loss not my problem. I was taken back by this but immediately picked up the cookie, threw it away and requested a replacement. She eventually gave me another one after speaking to the man I assumed to be her husband in Italian. I paid for my pastries and as I headed for the door, I took my cookie out of the bag to eat while on my way. It was not the correct item. I went back to the cashier (a young male with dark hair) I gave him the incorrect cookie and request the correct one. He rolled his eyes took the cookie and walked off to the display case. He asked me which one and I told him. With a snarl on his face, he said that we don't have that and said we have, . . repeating exactly what I said with his Italian accent making fun of my USA southern accent. At this point the lady came back and asked him something in Italian. He then asked me for the replacement cookie I had already given to him. I told him I gave it to you already. He looked down at the counter and did not say anything. The lady came from behind the counter and took my bag and checked it to see if I was lying. She then checked the bag of the other customer, also black (the one whose bag she incorrectly put my cookie in, in the first place)! I was beyond appalled and embarrassed!!!! The other customers looked on speaking to one another in Italian. It was an awful experience. If I had not already paid for my items , I would have left without spending one cent! They gave me the cookie and I left speechless, embarrassed, and angry. I can't remember ever being treated like this at any place I have ever patronized.

I pastries were very good and the cafe was very nice but I would rather patronized a cafe that is ugly with just okay pastries that serve me with respect!!

I loved this place the pastry and the food are soo good i would love to live here to try something new everyday. I had an english breackfast and i tryed like 7 pastry whit my friends, OMG best taste ever The guys are so welcoming and caring one girl give to us all the detail of the city ,she basically did our vacation and we spend the best time in Napoli becouse of this place! If u are tourist i recommend you to come here as first thing to get the best tips for you vacation. Fall in love with this place and this persons here! While traveling we were seeking something familiar and we noticed they had an American breakfast. It was scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and a small salad. The food was good and hit the spot.

We sampled a few pastry items that were excellent, they had a great tea selection, and their espresso was good also.

Their best feature is their staff. They were friendly, efficient, and super helpful. The best past was the Owner's daughter Rossella, she offered tremendous advice for the best places to visit in Naples and Ischia.
