Al Tentacolo — Restaurant in Palermo

The food was honestly only ok. The lady will fill a tray with random stuff, way too much than you'll actually eat and you need to ask her to remove stuff. Take like €10 worth of stuff off what she proposes (it's done by weight). Octopus is extra beyond this pile of sea creatures. The starters are served cold, which wasn't very nice for me personally. The fish is simply deep fried and is fresh thankfully but quite bland beyond that. The baby squid was not prepared correctly, with bone and ink not removed which was not great. The sardines were nice, shrimp was nice, anchovies were bitter.. just a very mixed bag. The atmosphere is not great either, bad music and fluorescent lights. We went here for lunch and got a table quickly. The staff told us Spritz cocktails were €5, so we ordered. The food was fine, nothing special, and the eatery itself feels a bit shabby and sometimes noisy.

When the bill came, they charged €7 for the Hugo Spritz. I pointed out that they had said €5, but they insisted only Aperol Spritz is that price. Honestly, there’s no real difference between the two besides the color, so it felt misleading. They refused to honor what was said, which left a really bad impression.

To make things worse, they don’t have prices written anywhere, so you have to verify before ordering. Very unprofessional. Because of this, they lose a lot of points with me, and I wouldn’t return. I even uploaded a photo of a nearby sign showing that prices for Aperol and Hugo Spritz are...

Absolutely amazing - simple seafood cooked perfectly.

After hitting quite a lot of below average restaurants in Palermo, I had seriously given up on the food here. But then came Al Tentacolo - my most favourite eating out experience by far.

You decide which seafood you want, they then grab it by for you by the handful, allowing you to decide what you fancy - we had extra of the calamari 😋

Then you state how you want it cooked. Fried, grilled - they got you!

It's served in rustic simple perfect, seasoned lightly with a batter and delicate flavourings on paper plates.

Honestly, please visit this place - we would have gone back twice but it was closed on Sunday...
