It is our 5th day in Palermo, we only had great experience with food until tonight. We were in the area looking randomly for a dinner place and found this “top pick” restaurant on Google. In the end, we left with half empty stomachs and the worst dinning experience.
Nobody serving us after we sat down outside for quite some time. Had to personally walk in to ask for a menu. Starter: ordered Parmesan eggplant (8€). Reasonable price on paper until we received 2 slice of eggplants and a tiny piece of bread on the side of the plate. And the taste was literally Parmesan on eggplant. Too bad didn’t take a picture for this one. Second dish: pasta con il sardi. Waited a long time after finishing the starter. The taste was just mediocre. Quantity wasn’t much as compare to other restaurants we’ve been to. Third dish: fried squid. The waitress came and threw the plate on our table and ran away without taking away our finished plate for spaghetti. Instead of squid we received a plate of fried fish and shrimps. Went inside to explain it wasn’t what we ordered as she ran away too quick, got a “sorry”, NOT for taking the wrong dish, but for not having squid anymore. And told us fried fish is really good also (so we were supposed to just shut up and eat whatever we get?) I had to stop another lady to explain that I did NOT order this and I was NOT going to eat or pay for something I didn’t order. Had to ask her to take the plate away wasn’t sure if she understood me. The waitress spoke very limited English which wasn’t a big deal as we are in a foreign country, until we receive the wrong dish. The English menu was handwritten and I doubt if the waitress understood what’s on it (hence the ordering mistake).
It might look like a restaurant from the outside but it was street food service. And I honestly have no idea where all the good reviews are from but to me it deserves...
Read moreMe and my wife came for a late dinner yesterday. First, it took them around 30 minutes to take the order. We ordered caprese, parmigiano, 2x pasta alla norma and a glass of wine. After another 30 minutes we received wine. The waiters were very disorganized, although nice. Another 30 minutes later (that's a total of 1.5hr) the waitress came and announced, that they cannot prepare pasta alla norma, and suggested pasta alla trapanese and spaghetti with mules. At the same time, the antipasti were ready to serve (1.5hr) so we decided to give the pasta a try, because of the great opinions. Caprese and parmigiana were delicious - very fresh, very well seasoned, nicely served. We thought: ok, it was worth waiting. And then the worst part begins - the pasta. Spaghetti alla trapanese didn't have a pesto alla trapanese - instead they use fresh pomodori - and that's all. It was literally as if they just put some tomatoes on a pasta and add a little olive. No salt, no pepper, no almonds, no garlic, no cheese. Absolutely no taste at all. The sauce was very runny, like water. Pasta with mules was A LITTLE better, because the mules gave some flavour to the pasta and that's all. After 2 hours we enjoyed our antipasti and couldn't finish the main course. The worst thing is - they can clearly cook, proven by all those positive comments and our antipasti, but somehow our pasta was awful. At the end they realised my wife is pregnant and started to make apologies, but it was too late. They had a lot of customers that day - maybe it...
Read moreI wouldn't even give this restaurant one star; it was the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at! We decided to go because it had a 4.8 rating on Google Maps. I ordered the Spaghetti con Vongole, but the vongole were all spoiled! I immediately informed the waitress. At first, she argued with me, saying the seafood had arrived at 5 PM and couldn't possibly be spoiled. But when I showed her the clams that were either closed or had meat sticking to the shells, she finally agreed to let me choose a different first course. My parents ordered Spaghetti con Cozze, and the mussels weren't fresh either!! The waitress loudly explained to us that this was just because the mussels were a special type from Sicily, not from Spain, and they have a particular texture because of their Sicilian origin, which she emphasized with a strong sense of Sicilian superiority. But we've eaten mussels many times before and can confidently say these were not fresh. The prices are higher than at other restaurants, and yet the ingredients are like this! Avoid this place...
