I recently visited this place and, unfortunately, had an unpleasant experience with two of the waiters, which I feel compelled to share.
I was there with a friend, and we requested a specific table from a waiter with darker skin. He rudely refused our request, stating that this table was ud for 4 people. However, moments later, he seated another 2 people at the same table. Surprised by this inconsistency, I approached the waiter politely to seek an explanation. Instead of providing an answer, he ignored me entirely.
While I was attempting to understand the situation, another waiter, who appeared to be the manager and was wearing glasses, intervened in a highly unprofessional manner. He shouted at me in front of numerous customers, instructing me to either sit down or leave the restaurant . This treatment was not only humiliating but also felt discriminatory.
I would like to emphasize that the hostess lady was very polite and professional, which was a stark contrast to the behavior of the two aforementioned waiters.
This experience left me feeling discriminated against and deeply disappointed with this service I hope the management will take the necessary steps to address this issue and ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
I read your reply to my review, and you and you know that your reply is not the truth . let me tell you that I am writing here the facts that happened exactly , I don’t have any benefit to Invent false stories, you are replied to my review and tried to write your own false scenario and hiding the reality and what really happened . I have always been polite and nice but I can’t accept being discriminated and ignored and treated unprofessionally and impolitely. And I have the right to write my true experience with this place that I will never visit again till you hire people who know how to Treat clients with class Specifically the manager wearing glasses who was unpolite, unprofessional and...
Read moreAntico Caffè Greco (1760) is the oldest coffee/tea house in Rome and the third oldest in Italy. It is located in the fashionable via condotti and close to the famous Piazza di Spagna.
It has remained at this location since its opening in 1760 and maintains its old world charm and decor. To emphasise the old world feel, the waiters and baristas wear tuxedos and bow ties.
Now many reviews might scare you away by quoting the very expensive prices but be aware this is for the sit down table cloth and silver service option. Truly worth the one off spoil yourself moments in life.
For the budget minded, you can equally enjoy yourself, at a fraction of the cost, by choosing the stand up and drink your caffè at the bar (Italian style) while enjoying the ambience and watching the barista performing his skills. For this option simply pay first at the cashier then take your docket to the counter for your coffee to be prepared.
A cappuccino this way costs €2.50.
Yes they also have all the sweets and desserts you could ask for and on display at the glass counter at the entry.
While on the subject of coffee, these long established cafes have been perfecting the art of blending and roasting coffee beans to create their own special and distinctive taste. You know the blend is great when you don't have to add sugar to your coffee to make it drinkable, as is the case for a lot of modern coffee shops.
So if you consider yourself a connoisseur of coffee then you must not miss out on the caffè greco experience. Of course you are not a true connoisseur until you have also visited caffè Florian (1720) in Venice and caffè Gilli (1733)...
Read moreI came in to drink a quick espresso at the bar. Right away the staff didn't seem happy about my visit. They were very unfriendly and gave me the feeling that I wasn't supposed to be there. I was not dressed up, since I am on my vacation, but definitely not shabby or anything - shorts and Tshirt, Sneakers. But the looks that I got really made me feel unwelcome, so I quickly drank my Espresso and left - as I intended - but with a bad feeling. The cafe is located right next to the spanish steps, so it's pretty pricy -1,70€ for an espresso. The coffee was fine, but not the best one I've had in Rome. Since I used to be a barista myself, I wanted to try as many popular cafès as possible, but this one was sadly the worst experience so far. You guys should really think about your behaviour towards guests, just being one of the oldest cafès and being located in a popular place doesn't make up for everything else, as decent service and making your guests feel welcome. Disappointing.
Update after reply: I had absolutely no problem with the espresso - a bit on the sour side, but the taste was fine. The issue I had was that I wasn't able to enjoy it with the baristas (including an older gentleman behind the bar) giving me some sort of "you don't belong here -look", it was quite obvious that they had a problem with my appearance. They weren't surprised by my visit, they seemed rather annoyed. No "hello", "thank you", "you're welcome" or anything. They just made me, or us, since I was there with my girlfriend,...
