We ordered espressos and a juice at Bar Monti during a quiet period of a weekday. The drinks themselves were nothing out of the ordinary, but the service here was definitely bizarre and warranted a review. We initially sat outdoors where about half the tables were occupied and were reminded to āsit on a single tableā, so we did. After receiving the menus, we decided to move indoors to the back room due to the heat, of which had only three occupied tables. We made ourselves comfortable in a corner seat (albeit a double table) of the room. When the waiter came over, he requested we move before he took our order. We found this persistence with asking a patron to āsit on a single tableā even after weād sat down bizarre given the bar was almost empty (photo for reference).
Funnily enough, an Italian couple ended up self-selecting to sit in the corner table we initially selected indoors, and were not asked to leave the table. Again, bizarre.
My suggestion to Bar Montiās staff: be a little bit more rational and consistent; perhaps ask patrons to move tables only when you actually have more people at the bar and seating is required. If you have set rules on size of group to tables, maybe either direct patrons to specific tables or be consistent and ask anyone sitting on ātoo big of a tableā...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA meal at Bar Monti (described by all attending as ādistinctly passableā) was sadly concluded with a fraught altercation with the waiter when our party realised we had been charged twice for the bill.
The waiters seemed more than happy to take a double payment for our meal, until we noticed their mistake. Not a single word of apology subsequently passed their lips, but instead we were subjected to angry accusations by multiple members of the waiting staff. Only after heated discussions between their team were we issued with our refund, which was delightfully accompanied by a curt remark, a cold sneer, and the somewhat bizarre refusal to give us any sort of receipt. Being subjected to the wrath of two angry waiters for what was entirely their fault was not how we had planned to spend our final lunchtime in Rome, and was, quite frankly, unacceptable. Avoid this establishment like the plague if you enjoy any sort of tranquility when dining out.
P.s. a piece of hard plastic in the carbonara sealed the 1...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I entered, I asked the staff whether it is okay to work from there for the day or not - they said it is fine but they do not have wifi. I communicated my intentions clearly. However I let the staff know, that I am waiting for 2 others, they still removed a table from me. Which made it impossible for us to eat at that place. Other than food and coffee, I ordered 1 litre of water and I could only finish half glass from it. If they had told me at the beginning, that we couldnt stay for a longer period, I wouldn't order anything there, wouldnt even sit down. Terrible communication, my WORST experience in a bar EVER, I felt really humiliated.... luckily there is a restaurant close by that was kind enough to wait for my friends and take all of our orders. I do not recommend this place, except if you want to eat your food in a big hurry :) - as they checked me 2 times whether I finished already (spent there...
