In my opinion, this is one of the best gelato shops we had in Rome! It already ticked a box when we noticed the gelato was covered in the canisters so we decided to try some in order to beat the Rome heat. Our group tried several flavors including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate chip, strawberry, and raspberry. All the flavors were extremely flavorful and packed a punch with every single bite. It was almost 100 degrees when we visited, and I must say everyone’s favorite was the raspberry (lamponi in Italian). It was the perfect amount of sweetness and super refreshing that it honestly made us question if we should go get another one that’s how good it was. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and even gives everyone a biscuit on top of their gelato. Her name was Maria and she uses the recipes her father handed down to her… you can tell she takes a lot of pride in her work. We came here 3 times the gelato was that good. We had been in Italy for a week and had passed on every Gelateria we’d seen. By “we” I mean my teen sons and myself. My husband has an innate willpower. We wanted our first taste to be real and my sister had given us the low down on what was real. Gelato shouldn’t be fluffy, swirly, and in rectangular display tins. We were having lunch in the Jewish ghetto and I googled gelato in Trastevere and found this gem. Great reviews and they don’t lie. It’s small batch gelato by a passionate owner who follows her dads recipes. We had time before our next excursion so we stood around, had our gelato and then had a second round. It was that good. We then had the courage to try at another place for comparison. Nope, this is it. Round tins, not meant for fancy display, small batch. Amazing flavors. Don’t limit yourself but we had Nutella with yogurt. Pistachio with cheese and honey. Coconut with chocolate. The lemon! Oh my! Cinnamon! Glorious.
