Il Botticelli Roma — Restaurant in Rome

My fiance and I were in the area (far from our hotel) to have dinner at another restaurant nearby, when we saw their menu outside and decided to have a look. Not even 10 seconds later, we were approached by a man asking us to have dinner here. Having had great experiences with restaurants in Rome after 3 days, I thought that this place would be fine for an easy, cheap, no-fuss dinner. Boy, were we wrong.

The food was nothing to write home about (the fettuccine ala ragu tasted like Spaghetti Os), the portions were tiny, and the service was in no way worthy of an exceptional tip. The worst part? They not only ask you to pay inside (which, hello, that is part of the service), but they slap on an automatic tip. Ridiculous!! A tip is earned, and it certainly was not in this case.

After I complained about the automatic undisclosed tip on the check, the manager/owner first told me that that's how it is in all Roman restaurants (WHICH IS NOT TRUE) and then proceeded to tell me that I should have gone to McDonald's!! Really? I also happen to work in the service industry and tip generously for great service. Our bill was small and the automatic tip was relatively insignificant, but it was the priniciple of the matter. All I ask is that a restaurant not be dishonest.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs!! The host was incredibly rude and pretty much pressured us while looking at the menu. He kept saying that the place was fully booked and that we only had 10 mins to decide whether we want to eat there otherwise we can just "go to McDonald's". Upon sitting down we were crammed in a 4-person table and there was 6 of us. The worst part is the place wasnt even full as the host had said earlier. The food is cheap but incredibly disappointing. the steaks are all well done including the tagliata Manzo which is steak that's meant to be cooked rare however it was completely well done. Very disappointing. To top it all off, they overcharged us for the bill. They charge €2 for each bottle of tap water and €11 for each waiter that served us (coperto). They also got our orders wrong and charged us for bread which we didn't even get.

Food was mediocre at best. Chicken didn't taste fresh and the salmon was simply ok. Waiter avoided us and all eye contact. We had a second waiter come to take our order after ours had been taken. Food took very long to arrive, while the waitresses were hanging out in the kitchen and at the bar, many customers were waiting. Tables sat with dirty plates while customers waited for checks. The chocolate soufflé was the size of an Oreo cookie and cost 4$. We asked for our check and it never arrived. The girls were chatting and dancing and no where to be seen ans I sat watching someone in the kitchen picking their nose. When we asked a second time for the check they gave us another tables'.
