Where to start. Service was slow and as others have mentioned some tables get menus others a token with a QR code. My guess if you are not Italian. Which may make sense and help with translation.
Food:. Focaccia was fine. Hard to not have a solid Focaccia in Rome. Cacio de Pepe was very good with a lot of cheese. Very rich.
Penne with Arrabbiata was not good at all. No spiciness and no indication of any pepper flakes. The worst part. Burnt acrid garlic. The oil was too hot which burns the garlic, even when it does not look burnt, with a super strong bitter taste. It was the worst dish we have had in Florence, Tuscany, and Rome because of the burnt garlic.
Now the bad part. The Penne was not edible. But no waiter or help came out for over 25 minutes. We had ordered the Cod as a second course but by now we just wanted to leave. Out of water and wine and my wife had pushed her Penne to the middle of the table.
I got up and nicely asked the staff if the cod has not been done we would like to leave as it was taking too long. The owner/manager came buy and asked where we were sitting. I pointed to the table. He walked to the table and looked down, put his arms out and looked at my wife.
He came back and said, "we don't bring the next course until you finish your first. You never finished your pasta!". Yes in a loud voice. I stated if you need to charge me for the fish please do and deliver it to the couple next to us
It gets worse. He then says " please be quiet and let me explain something to you. I don't know what country you are from but in Rome we don't bring the next dish until you finish the first dish. You need to understand this and that's why it's taken so long".
Well. We would have finished the first dish if it was edible. And if an employee would have come around we would have told them we were done with the pasta and to bring the cod. We know how it works in Rome.
After his loud, yes loud lecture I only responded with a simple OK in a calm voice.
The Penne was bad. Don't expect a customer to eat bad food. And stop by and ask if everything is OK once in awhile.
Instead of assuming we are uneducated in the ways of Italian restaurants. How about learn to cook garlic correctly if you have...
Read moreWe had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant due to the poor service and unprofessional staff. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that service was not a priority. We waited an unusually long time before receiving any menus, despite trying to make eye contact with the staff, who repeatedly walked past us. When we finally asked for menus, the waiter simply pointed at the QR code on the table, even though other guests were being provided with paper menus. After yet another long wait, we finally placed our order with a waiter who seemed bored and uninterested in doing his job.
By this point, we had been inside for nearly 25 minutes with no drinks, no bread, and zero attention from any of the staff. Throughout our time there, not a single member of the team even cracked a smile. Frustrated, we decided to leave before the food arrived, unwilling to waste our money at a restaurant with such terrible service.
What happened next was even more shocking. As we stood up to leave, my husband politely told the waiter that we were unhappy with the service and that we were leaving. As we walked out, the waiter chased after us with an aggressive attitude, telling us it wasn’t acceptable to leave and that the food was ready. We explained again that we were sorry, but we didn’t want to eat somewhere with such rude and inattentive service. Instead of dropping it, the waiter followed us down the street, again confronting us in front of other patrons waiting for a table. His behavior was threatening and completely inappropriate, making us feel even more uncomfortable.
This experience was appalling. We wouldn’t want to return to a restaurant where the staff not only ignores guests but also chases them down the street to argue. Other reviews suggest that this is not an isolated incident. While we can’t comment on the food, if you care about good service and a welcoming atmosphere, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area where you won’t feel disrespected. Don’t waste your time...
Read moreWe had reservations confirmed since July for Oct 2024. This is our first time eating at this restaurant. Yesterday, we read a Facebook post which worried us greatly- a customer's husband had to be hospitalised after eating their tuna dish. We sent an email asking Osteria Nuvolari for more info about this incident as we want to hear their side of the story. Instead, we got a very rude, defensive and passive aggressive reply from the restaurant which basically canceled our dinner reservations. We now know that this restaurant does not care about reviews or their reputation. I know this restaurant does not need our business but it is shocking to find such poor attitude towards customers' queries. We will not recommend this place to any of our friends coming to Italy in 2025. There are many other customers who have encountered the terrible attitude of the staff and the owners of Osteria Nuvolari Rome. There are many other great restaurants in Rome that can provide better service and speak to customers more kindly and answer questions politely.
The reply below from Osteria Nuvolari clearly confirms their horrible attitude towards customers - past and potential. Not worth spending money and time in Osteria Nuvolari. We are not the first one to write about their appalling attitude towards even potential and past customers! I urge everybody to read ALL reviews and especially those that have mentioned Osteria Nuvolari's horrible attitude...
