We wanted to celebrate our daughter's birthday when in Rome and chose this place based on suggestions and reviews. We were not disappointed.
First, the location and ambience - we really loved the location - off the busy streets but next to an historical building which really added to the charm of the place. The setup was in a piazza which was closed off and added greatly to the privacy but you can still get a view of street traffic.
Then the food. We are vegetarians - so this is from that perspective. Even though there were not too many vegetarian choices there was enough variation to order 3 different dishes between a family of 5. The Risotto was great and the Fettuccine tomato was so yummy - one of the best ever. And after eating pasta in Italy, I like al Dante better than the pasta cooked in the US.
They had things of desert options. Not too much fan of the eggy tasting sauce in the apple pie but everything else tasted good.
And I asked if they could do a birthday candle type thing for daughter and they were gracious enough to do that and I thank them for that.
The staff were very friendly, courteous and very helpful.
My only very minor gripe is wishing they could make the restaurant a smoke free place. We sat next to someone who was smoking continuously for the hour+ we were there and we all came back smelling of...
Read moreThis is a great Roman restaurant. You will find properly Roman food throughout the menu including artichokes, fish, lamb, chickpeas, squid, and octopus. The antipasto bar is delicious and great chance to try a variety of different Roman dishes at once, including that intimidating octopus salad, or carciofi alle brace (grilled artichokes, awesome option for Americans trying to be a bit more adventurous).
The ambiance adds to the whole Italian/Roman experience, with beautifully simple decoration, many different rooms to lower noise and give privacy. I had the feeling of walking through an old Roman villa.
Service was great, provided by actual Romans, with thick Roman accents, and a great sense of hospitality.
In response to some of the poor reviews...This place is not cheap, and they have thankfully put all their prices on the menu. It has a great location so it is understandable that one could stumble in and not realize the caliber of this place, then get shocked by prices (especially if the prices were not available at the time).
If you are looking for a place to spoil yourself one night while in Rome, this is a good choice, and a must try for those living in and...
Read moreThe worst restaurant experience in Rome!! Avoid of going there! The food was cold and horrible. When we said to the waiter that the food is cold, she did not answer us at that time and she went inside for a short while and then came back and answered very rudely and aggressively. It was an unpleasant service and unprofessional job. She brought the bread to us at the end of our meals that we have almost finished our food and we said to her that we do not want the bread. After that, when we asked the bill, she threw the bill on the table disrespectfully. We paid the bill which included 8 euros for some breads!! In which we did not ask and she brought to us very late. This was a scam. Shame on you and the owner of the restaurant!! They lacked the class and detail orientation that one experiences in fine dining restaurants in Rome. Overall, it was not a friendly and pleasant place. We did not enjoy at all. The service is really weak and it is out of worth to pay for this...
