Overall we were very disappointed with this hotel.||The Good: Fantastic location— 10-15 minute walk to most major Rome attractions. Staff was generally friendly. ||The Bad: ||The hotel was not clean. A few examples: (1) the tile grout in the shower area had lots of visible mold; (2) the hair dryer, aside from being ancient, was filthy, with visible gray grime on the handle and several long dark hairs from prior users caught in the machine itself; (3) there were many scuffs on the walls; (4) for decoration the beds used upholstered pillows without removable covers, meaning the same pillow covers that had been on the bed from prior users and that had likely been on the ground were laying against the same pillows you were about to put your head on at night. ||We also experienced several housekeeping and maintenance issues during our 4-night stay. Namely: (1) we had no hot water one morning, and when we explained the issue to hotel staff, the person first implied that we just didn’t know how to work the shower, offering to go up to our room with us to check out the issue, even after we reminded her that we were on the third day of our stay; we were next told that it was likely because other people were showering (and thus using hot water) at the same time—not a very comforting answer; (2) the (one and only) elevator was broken one day—something that sounds not too bad until you’ve come back from a long day schlepping around the Eternal City; (3) we came back one night to housekeeping having taken our dirty towels but failed to give us new ones—in other words, we had no towels at all. ||The rooftop bar was not even close to good enough to make up for these flaws. The views were okay but not spectacular; the two bartenders seemed generally uninterested in their jobs and customers; the cozy cushioned furniture featured in the photos was covered up and unusable both nights we were there even though it was not raining; and the drinks were overpriced—giving them cool names and “vibes” doesn’t change that they’re pre-mixed, weak, and €25! ||Given the many, many lodging options in Rome’s historic center, we will definitely be staying elsewhere for our next trip...
Read moreThe hotel manager is not nice at all, he plays himself nice and "try" to help. We were interested in going to the Coliseum and we asked for help with ordering tickets, he wanted to give us a ticket that it's price is 32 euro and then said there is no availability so we can go buy this ticket in the near store and say that he send us. At the end we found the same ticket in the original website with the price of 24 euro and we even saw a light ticket in 18 euro that he didn't tell us about. And this is not the end with the money. If one buys from the official website, their site is not properly I showed it to the receptionist. You choose dates and it shows you different dates. We thought we did mistake and we asked to move dates and they said it is an extra charge of the difference that we have to pay in advanced or our booking will get cancelled and we won't get any refund. I said OK although I saw on the internet a price lower than what he asked for. At our checkout we found out they cancelled our original reservation with no problem and made new one to ask the money back. The hotel wasn't full and still we didn't get a nice room, we were at the first floor, our window had a view to nothing without air entry. The hotel was Clean, some of the staff are nice, the owner of the hotel is terrible. You cannot go to the rooftop anytime you want. We came one morning to the rooftop after their breakfast was done, they didn't let us sit there with the reason that they are cleaning. The next morning the worker there just didn't want to let us there, just said "no" and the other one told him to let us sit outside. We didn't feel welcome at all. Additionally, they didn't say the rooftop is closed all the time, but that is the truth, only in their breakfast and evening it's open. They said it is open in the evening until 11 pm but when we came at 10:30 pm it was closed and the receptionist said it is because there weren't any reservations. We were disappointed because we actually were looking for it, and the only other place to sit in the hotel is in the lobby that is very dark even during the day. I would advise travelers not...
Read moreI'm not saying that it's a bad hotel, but that my particular stay was horrible. The main antagonist was the AC in my room. First of it was old, which is not a problem in and of itself, but a new one would've saved me from the torment... The AC was less than a meter from my feet, lying on the bed. Set on high temps (24-25), it paused every couple of minutes and when start working again it will make terrible noise. Set on low temps (anything below 24), it will freeze the room. After the first hour in the room I asked the desk if there is another room available. There wasn't and instead they promised to send someone to fix the AC. Twice I complained and twice they sent someone over who did absolutely nothing that manage to fix the AC. My stay was 3 nights, so I decided to bear with the AC and terrible freezing nights (would rather freeze in silence than get wake up every couple of minutes). Bad AC and incompetent service alone do not warrant one star rating, in my opinion. The reason for the one star is the cold I had for weeks later and the symptoms that persisted up to two months later. One upside was the hot chocolate milk I was serviced at my first breakfast. Sadly, the mornings after it was subpar at best.
EDIT: Adding to the owner's response, since I don't know how to comment back... I think you (owner) mixed your responses. Didn't say anything about "water" in my review. Additionally, I've stayed at the hotel at the beginning August 2021 (reviewing now since I'm planning my first trip since this one and it came to mind). One thing you got half right is that the moment I entered the room and realized the condition of the AC, I asked if something can be done about it. Other than offering to send someone to fix it (twice, since I informed you it still had problems), you did not offer any alternative and I left the matter alone as I spent the days out and only returned to sleep and have breakfast. I'll take your senseless accusations as human's error, rather than comment further. I'll add that of the 4 hotels I've stayed at during my vacation in Italy, yours had the best...
