If you have any self respect you will stay far away from this establishment. The food was spectacular which is such a shame because the service was incredibly rude.
Totally arrogant staff only interested in belittling the customers and no regard for dietary requirements.
If you have any medical conditions that require attention or if you are travelling with young children I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
We were seated under an air conditioning vent that proceeded to leak onto us for the entirety of our meal. When we brought it to their attention the waiter seemed unconcerned and indicated that this is just how it is. Perhaps if you didnāt try to cram so many tables into your restaurant to extract as much money as possible from your poor victims it wouldnāt be an ongoing issue (as outlined in other reviews).
My mother was scolded for ordering minestrone as apparently it is not the weather for it. Not sure why it is on the menu (which is supposedly printed daily) if you shouldnāt be ordering it. Iām also not sure what weather the arrogant waiter thinks a warm soup is good for, it was pouring with rain and a cold autumn day.
After explaining that she was a diabetic and asking how long the food might be we were dismissed. When it finally arrived the food was delicious and canāt be faulted.
After a nice meal we ordered some dessert and coffee. When I asked for a cappuccino for my mum I was laughed at and told it was impossible and illegal. When I reminded them of her diabetes and explained her need for the milk the laughter continued but they did finally relent and bring us the coffee that we ordered. If a customer orders something politely just do what you are asked. To act offended because someone wants milk with their coffee after a certain time is absurd, to flat out deny someone something until they push back against your arrogance is insane.
There are many other restaurants with food that is just as good (if not better) and waitstaff that will treat you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery sadly terrible experience at Al Moro. We chose to visit, after having read numerous reviews from trusted sources including Noble Rot, which said that this restaurant was worth a visit in spite of its tourist location.
To begin with, all of the tourists were cramped into a small, muggy back room. When we left there was significant space in the front rooms. The atmosphere of the whole venue was lacking.
The food was awful. Each dish either overcooked or undercooked, underseasoned. This wasn't simple, classic food done well, it was simple, classic food done badly.
It was the first restaurant we visited in Rome, and set a horrible precedent for our trip. We went in wanting to like it and on such a high to get to try this out.
I also noticed soon on the wine list a bottle of Emidio Pepe's Trebbiano D'Abruzzo, which I've had a couple of times before and loved. So thought we'd kick off with that as a treat. An interesting thing happened that because of my high of arriving, I started filling in the blanks with what the wine usually tastes like. After a second glass, it soon realised that this wasn't just 'still opening up' but was in fact fully corked.
By now, the atmosphere was horrible, the food bad, and now the wine off.
Food for a couple of light courses went to over ā¬100, and then the wine was ā¬120. We got out of there as soon as we could ā as did other tables we saw in there at the time.
This place has a long history, and many of the other complaints seem to be about price. I'm very happy paying good money for great service, food, atmosphere, and wine ā but al Moro lacks all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe booked a table at 20:00 thinking we would have an easy and relaxed dinner. This place has been on my radar for quite some time and i was looking forward to wining and dining.
As soon as i walked in, i knew that this would not be the case. Apparently i booked too early and was put in the ātouristā shift. It seemed like they couldnt kick us out sooner.
The pasta we ordered was raw - not even al dente - full on undercooked. Im a born and raised Roman - i know what is al dente and notā¦The waiter could tell when he was mixing the sauce of the carbonara for us and didnt say anything. When i asked to have it re-made he said āyes it did look a bit too undercookedā. It came back 3 minutes later⦠probably the same pasta was put in a microwave or in a pan. For the prices you pay, this shouldnt happen.
The ambience in the restaurant is also stressful, waiters are running around and in to your tables/chairs because its such a small space. If you charge such high prices, you should work on the quality of your service.
Theres a list of things i can say about this place that are wrong, but i think its best to sum it up.
Would i come back? No. Theres much better places in Rome that serve traditional food for...
