Tourist Trap Near the Trevi Fountain: Avoid This Restaurant! If you're visiting the Trevi Fountain and looking for a quick bite, steer clear of Mangia e Trevi. My recent experience there was deeply disappointing and I feel compelled to warn other tourists about this potential rip-off. Firstly, the food was mediocre at best. The pizza and pasta dishes we ordered were distinctly average, nothing to write home about, and certainly not worth the prices they were charging. Even before we sat down, I had to clean our seats myself – a clear indication of the lack of attention to basic hygiene and cleanliness. This should have been the first red flag. However, the most egregious aspect of our visit was the waiter's (a middle-aged man with grey hair) behaviour. He was incredibly pushy about receiving a tip, practically badgering us throughout our meal. This already felt uncomfortable, but the situation worsened when we declined to leave one. Firstly, tipping is not compulsory in Italy, and secondly, a service charge of €2 per person had already been added to our bill. This felt like a sneaky tactic, especially given the already inflated prices due to the restaurant's prime location. The fact that a service charge was included and the waiter still aggressively pursued a further tip felt incredibly scammy. Upon leaving, the waiter completely ignored us, clearly disgruntled that his demands for extra money were not met. This unprofessional and frankly rude behaviour cemented my negative impression of the establishment. Given its proximity to a major tourist attraction, I suspect this restaurant preys on unsuspecting visitors. My advice? Avoid Mangia e Trevi at all costs. There are plenty of other dining options in Rome. Don't let this place ruin your experience near the Trevi Fountain. Save your money and find a restaurant that values its customers and serves decent food without resorting to such blatant tactics.

Terrible experience. A big act of racism. None showed us a table. We sat in a table outside. Waited for more than 20mins. None came to the table. There was no sign of self-service. we waited for the waiter to attend our table. Meanwhile as we were really hungry, we had some snacks which we had. Then, all of suddenly, one rude waiter stormed and started shouting at us and refused to take our order. Response to the reply of restaurant: why was order not taken from me in first place? Why did none showed us table? Yes, I have posted the pic true to itself. I wanted to try local cuisine inspite of having my own food in hand. Even if outside food is not allowed, they could have politely mentioned that. My parents being elderly, they couldn't wait anymore for the order to be taken. This would have not happened if the order was taken on time. We were completely ignored. We waited 20mins, then my parents were having the snack food, only 5mins later the waiter shouted at us directly. I asked the waiter to take the order, he refused to take the order. Why did he refuse to take my order? Because of brown skin color? When I spoke to the manager as well, the waiter was shouting in the background.

Maybe the lunch and dinner menu will be better. For what the prices are for the breakfast menu, the meal was largely disappointing. We had the pistachio croissant and scrambled eggs for breakfast alongside a hot chocolate and cappucino. The coffee itself was good, and the scrambled eggs were quite nice as well. That said the price for the eggs was 13 euros and prices are not listed for any items in the breakfast menu. Cappucino was 3.5, and hot chocolate 5.5. Out of all the items, only the cappucino and croissant seemed fairly priced. Other items were by all means far more expensive compared to value, possibly due to the close location to the trevi fountain. I would steer absolutely clear from the croissants and hot chocolate since unless you really REALLY like sugar, as both items were very sweet, essentially coated with sugar. We paid 30 euros for a 29.5 bill and were not returned the tip as well. While we intended to give the change as tip anyway, having it forced on left a sour taste.

Very Good location for a restaurant but I don't understand why they don't offer exceptional food. I was disappointed and misguided by the 4.4 that google map gives them. Maybe it was a good restaurant before but not anymore. To my taste the food was too salty. We ordered a pizza and carbonara pasta; the pizza was way too salty and the pasta as well without mentioning the overcooked fry salty bacon. How can you salt BACON!!?? Come on! I asked for a glass of water and I end up paying for a whole bottle so don't make that mistake and keep in mind that the bill will have 3 euro surcharge for service which honestly wasn't that great 😮‍💨.

After my 1st post I thank the owner for trying to explain to me that the salty bacon was called "pancetta sallata" and it was traditional way to cook with it but honestly the pizza didn't need to be so salty as well.(Or it was also a "Pizza sallata").

To the owner: it is not my first time in Roma but it was my first time in your restaurant. I m not insulting Italian tradition or criticizing you! I love Italian food, I had Italian food before and that's why I was expecting a better culinary experience at your restaurant. Unfortunately, I didn't have that and that's just my experience. I wish other people to get a better experience at your...
