We opted to dine here as there is a vegan menu. In a sea of largely standard tourist fare in Sirmione, this was a pleasant surprise. This said, the offer did not follow through in several ways.
The waiting staff had limited knowledge about the vegan menu, enquiries about the bread and the dessert courses resulted in sub par responses. The head server at one point asked if we ate salmon; clearly not. This enquiry might have got lost in translation. A little more training across the team might be useful.
We were offered a very extensive wine menu, however, as we were not drinking, found the soft drink options which we had to ask about rather limited and largely similar to those found at a fast food restaurant. For our main course, we opted for Spaghetti in Demi Glacé with Artichoke. We agreed that this meal lacked imagination and rarely strayed beyond a single note. We can’t comment on the range beyond this dish. Vegan dessert choices were not indicated on the menu. After two separate enquiries, we were pointed toward a variety of sorbet options, but declined. Interesting to note that we were never asked how we had enjoyed the food, this is a simple way of checking in with the customer. This suggests an assumption that we would enjoy the food.
Redeeming the experience, to some extent, a member of the waiting team arrived with a generous range of vegan chocolates as an apology for confusion about the desert menu. These were the brief highlight of the meal, and were delicious.
On second request for the bill, the female server took card payment and walked off without comment or offering a card receipt. This approach was typical of a service that whilst often polite lacked any glimmer of personality across...
Read moreVisit this future Michelin Star restaurant while it is still accessible! We had a standby reservation and another couple grabbed our seat as we watched. No sooner had they done so that the wait staff whipped up a new seat with a furious frenzy, as if we were long-standing regulars! They whisked us to the alternative and started the first class delivery. Their wine suggestion was spot on, and appropriate to our selections. The amuse-bouche was a pleasant surprise and fitting of a high quality fare, mating potatoes with a caviar topping and lovely herb essence. The pulpo (octopus) I ordered was perhaps the best I had ever experienced, and that list is exceptional from Argentina, to Japan and through New York City. Perfectly executed, great cut and exceptional prep on this antipasto. My Tagliatelle with crab and green curry was likewise very well prepared. The icing on the cake was right and properly prepared Zabaglione, the likes of which I have not enjoyed in over thirty years. I have searched for this for a score and ten, and finally landed a restaurant who knows how to do this. And know they do! What a wonderful punctuation on a splendid meal. The price was likewise reasonable when considering the culinary and service quality as well as the premium location. Grab this before they are famous. A Michelin Star will elevate the price they can demand! You will be...
Read moreIn this restaurant young children are not welcome! The observation has been made also by other families here and it’s true! The problem is not that they don’t accept kids, but that instead of stating clearly a NO KIDS policy (and they don’t since it’s bad marketing to state it officially), they try to have it both ways by putting nothing officially and instead lying to you or by making you feel uncomfortable if you show up with kids.
Indeed we had an absolutely disgraceful experience with the restaurant tonight. When they saw us with two kids, they said that is fully booked both inside and outside. We sat in a restaurant across the street and noticed how they turn away people with kids but seat parties with adults only. Still- 1 hour later, outside was 70% empty so clearly not booked.
We confronted them (mainly because we as a family hate the hypocrisy of not declaring a clear no kids policy but still turning families away) and guess what- since the evening clearly wasn’t as successful as they expected, they invited us to seat if we want to. Of course we told them that we will never again go to their restaurant and I suggest you do the same if you mind places with such...
