Of course, the sweeping view of the Montepulciano landscape here is a magnet! But there is much more! Cafe Poliziano sports an elegant decor and charming almost olde-world ambience. I am sadly not a coffee drinker, meaning culpa, but the cafe menu lists countless combinations of the brown stuff no doubt deeply alluring to aficionados! However, their thick rich and evil (!) hot dark chocolate was ample compensation for this chocsholic, a choc to end all chocs, best leavened with a drastic blob of fresh cream (available on extra request)! Maybe add just a little tea to your menu, Poliziano, or would that be a sacrilege, a bridge too far demanded by this Brit-born Aussie traveller?! Food and wine in the restaurant area was classic fine Tuscan, perfetto! All around us too, in the cafe, exotic cakes, cookies and biscuits were on display - my mouth was watering with longing for them, but again, tragically I am Coeliac, clinically diagnosed gluten-intolerant and this cafe was a gluten-free desert (not dessert)! I challenge the Poliziano patissiers to come up with gf versions of a few of these visually delectable goodies! But wait, there is even more…The service was impeccable and on our third visit we encountered the staff’s very particular care and concern - we are reasonably tech-savvy oldies, using all manner of digital devices effectively, but just momentarily we saw some kind of hacking attempt to interfere with the cafe’s QR menu ordering code on our mobile. Had we succumbed to the online download request arising from this, we would have had serious banking issues. We managed to chat with the staff and the charming owner Davor, originally a Croatian, about this issue, for the sake of other customers. They all responded with alacrity and intelligence, and we have no doubt that this hiccup has now been resolved. A sojourn - or two - at either Poliziano’s upper-level cafe or downstairs ristorante section is strongly...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Caffe Poliziano for dinner while in Montepulciano. I'd had pasta for lunch and wanted something light, so I ordered the Ribbolita. We split a bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and a slice of Pistachio cake for dessert. The food was delicious, the atmosphere heavenly. Very Gatsby-esque! We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned the following night for dinner. Our server, Bella, was friendly and absolutely delightful! We were seated in the upstairs dining room terrace and right after we were seated, a table next to the window opened up. Bella immediately asked us if we'd like to move. We ordered the tagliatelle with duck ragu, a bottle of wine, and the tiramisu for dessert. Again, the atmosphere was relaxing, charming, and so romantic! We returned the following night for dinner since it was our last night in Tuscany and we wanted something special. Bella sat us at the window and we watched the full moon rise over Lago Trasimeno while we drank a bottle of delicious wine and enjoyed our Bistecca Fiorentina, artichokes, and rosemary potatoes. The pistachio cake for dessert with cafe (for my husband) and cappuccino (for me) was the perfect ending to an absolutely wonderful meal. We were deeply grateful for Bella's attentive (yet not intrusive) service, the delicious food, and the beautiful atmosphere that made our meals at Caffe Poliziano such a magical and memorable experience! I already can't wait to return to Montepulciano just so we can experience another meal at this...
Read moreThe place is rather disappointing and it is worth to come ONLY FOR THE TERRACE VIEW. We visited the caffeteria part for gelato and coffee. Gelato was just oridnary icecream and was not even close to hand made or traditional Italian gelato you can get in any smaller over the counter estbalishments in town. Worth mentioning that you are not getting what is pictured on the menu. All our desserts lacked biscuits, chocolate sticker and crumbs. Coffe was OK. Staff are not friendly amd talkative Italians. We got the impression they are tires with popularity and would rather we had gone elsewhere. Gluten free options are on the menu but ne aware that some items are marked as not having alergens and they do - simply they never bothered to mark that a biscuit contaons gluten. And on that note the waiters won’t help you since they pretend not to understand English nor the word gluten that is the same in Itialian. And to top the review - I was fealing ackward sitting with a beautiful view of the sunset panorama in a 1920s looka alike esteblishment and being served food on a sticky and...
