After 4 visits to Italy and COUNTLESS restaurants, my family and I finally found the place that every visitor should avoid. A place we ended up at out of desperation as our young son had just woken up and was starving ( we were at a different, amazing restaurant, 30 min prior) This Ai Coghi restaurant serves pizzas that are worse then frozen, microwaved pizza's: tastless, bland, hard. Their mussels were not very tasty either and my white wine was room temperature. Our son, whom was meant to eat the pizza, had half a slice and asked for a different, "yummy" place, which we found strange, so both my wife and I began trying it. Immediately we knew, this was bad pizza, both of us equally surprised and disappointed. We left 3/4 of the pizza untouched, i finished most of my mussels (many were empty in the shells) and spoke to the waiter to tell him of our dissatisfaction with the pizza. Well, they sent in some different waiter to collect the bill. It wasn't about the inexpensive pizza cost, but when someone says they were THOROUGHLY disappointed with a meal, you don't just say "o sorry' then still leave it on the bill and send in someone different to collect payment.
Nevertheless, that's what occurred. The lady "Anna" came in, and basically accosted me, dismissing our dislike for the pizza and began questioning why, while interupting me, grabbed my credit card out of my hand and tapped it while continuing to aggressively speak to me about how "others like it"
Well they don't! Thats why you have 3 stars!
Its not about the cost of the pizza, ita not much, but the poor food and most importantly, dismissive attitude and disregard for customer care was appalling and the reason I hope anyone reading this review stays away, they deserve...
Read moreI normally don't write reviews about restaurants but I have had some amazing food in Italy (most recently throughout Rome). This was the first restaurant we ate in Venice and our experience was not very good. The male waiter, who seated us (after making us wait for many minutes for no ostensible reason) was quite rude and did not allow us to keep our baby's stroller near our table, even though the table was outside and out of the general thoroughfare (i.e., would not have bothered anyone). It was around 10 pm, many restaurants (away from Ponte Rialto) were closing, and everyone was hungry; so, we just decided to eat there. The food was just ok. Their penne all'arrabiata was not at all spicy (we have had the real one in Rome, which was much better) but their margherita pizza was ok. The female waitress who served us was pleasant. However, since we had to leave as soon as we finished dinner (because our children were feeling very sleepy), I went to pay the bill inside. The male waiter was the one who took the payment and he refused to take my credit card because the amount (22 euros) was "too low"! I have paid restaurants with my credit card all over Rome for amounts as low as 5 euros with absolutely no issues. I told the waiter this and he didn't seem to care. I hope the rest of Venice has better restaurants and service than this. I would not go...
Read moreHad an unpleasant experience due to the service staff (especially the guy in glasses). We asked for a table of 8 and were seated outside but felt it was too hot, so requested to shift indoors. The aforementioned waiter was extremely rude, expressing annoyance and anger despite the reasonable request. He then proceeded to question if we were going to order anything, his excuse being that others have sat down, not ordered anything, then left. These scenarios are common, but we were already studying the menu, so I have no idea where he got this idea from.
Even after our assurance that we would order at least 5 mains, they proceeded to question if we were going to order coffee as well, as if they weren’t going to let us sit and eat otherwise.
I did not see these service staff treating any of their other customers the same way, albeit we were the only customers who were not white. Whether this questioning had anything to do with the colour of our skin I do not know, and hope that isn’t the case.
Food was mediocre as well. Overall disappointing, but perhaps locals may have a...
