I had a lovely stay at Hotel A la Commedia. It is 3-5min walk form Ponte Di Rialto (Rialto Bridge) and 5min walk to Basilica di San Marco. I was first checked in by Daniele which was seamless and lovely process. I have the opportunity to first stay at a regular room and then switched to the Junior suite in my last 2 days. The hotel is situation in the commercial area of Venice next to the famous Teatro. But it is quite silent and tranquil at night so sleeping there is very nice. The room is quite comfortable and clean and always up to standards just like you moved in the first day so kudos to the chambermaid and cleaning staff. There is an elevator to the rooms but the stairwell is also quite nice and decorative. The regular room is laid out nicely with a bed, two chairs and a desk. The bed is very comfortable and is warm enough to sleep in. There are enough pillows provided. There are also enough wall outlets for your devices. The light panels are easy to control, if turning all the room light or just the ambient luminaires or just the reading lamp. There is a minibar and a snack bar although the snackbar is not well stocked during my stay. The bathroom amenities are excellent with shampoo, body wash and fragrant soap and other things provided daily. The towels are very clean and changed daily. The bathtub is spacious enough for a bath or just a shower. They do provide without paper cups for use for brushing your teeth. The Wifi is quite fast and reliable. The Television channel are quite good although I was not able to fully take advantage of this because I was out of the room most of the time. The junior suite on the second floor was very nice and spacious. The bathroom of course is bigger and the room as well as the desk are laid out differently. You also get access to a Terrazzo (terrace) and it is quite nice since you can just stay there and feel what the weather is like and look down the alleyway. I also was able to tour the Terrazzo Altana (rooftop terrace) and sadly it was under renovation and not open for service. I only went there to take photos and see how it is. If you want a place that's quiet and tranquil but close to everything this is the...
Read moreWhere to start. To say the hotel was the unexpected highlight of our trip to Venice would be an understatement.
We arrived 30 minutes early and were able to check-in with no added charges. All of the staff we encountered during our stay were polite, friendly and helpful with all our needs. They even looked after our bags after we had checked out and we received bottled water every evening when we got back to the room, this was also done at no charge.
Our stay included breakfast every morning - which we had plentiful amounts. A wide range of foods, including deliciously smoked salmon and apricot jam croissants.
Now to the reason why we picked this hotel; the location. While Venice itself is not very large so as long as you stay somewhere situated on the main island, you will be relatively close to all of the main tourist locations. However, at the A La Commedia you are only 100m away from the Rialto Bridge and therefore all the restaurants, shops and grocery stores you will need to visit during your stay.
To begin to wrap up this longer review, the most important part of any hotel, the rooms. They are very traditionally Italian. It is certainly not modern in the slightest but that is not what you really expect from a Renaissance city such as Venice. Unfortunately, my only complaints are to do with the room. Firstly, the electrics and sockets in our room were somewhat faulty - having issues with charging devices and the provided hairdryer turning off. Secondly, our television remote did not work, to which I am guessing is due to a dead battery but as we did not come to Venice to watch TV, this wasn't a problem for us (TV did switch on using the control panel). Lastly, we did also have issues with the thermostat as it was often too hot in the room as it would not permanently change to a lower temperature.
I will finish by saying that none of these issues impacted our stay enough to complain to staff, it is just worth noting for...
Read moreWe were fortunate to be given a room on our arrival am .However this room is designed for disabled persons and very basic layout for wheel chair access. Good to know they have a wheelchair access bathroom/shower and room. Upon request, as to suitability we were changed to a really lovely room. But having to wait until 2pm. ThanksFor an old building and for Venice the rooms were large well equipped and very quiet, Very up to dateBreakfast is limited but a good selection. At an extra cost you can request further dishes from a menuMy comment for future guests, the free tour plus any other tours booked at the hotel is dependent on numbers if less than four it will be cancelled. This happened to us on 3 occasions. You will not be told until just before due, (low season)To also remember Venice appears to have regular strikes on transport serves the day we arrive trains the day we went to the island (ferry) unable to extend as public ferry services were on strike with very limited services. Normally the service is one way but because of this a return was arranged. The glass factory was very accommodating plus it is interesting and no hard sell, they have 2 areas limited additions and off the shelf, you can barter a little and for cash we received 10% discount in the off-shelf areaHotel position is really good, both for access to sights plus we were unable to get lost when walking back due to proximity to the water and bridge of sighsTheir airport and ship terminal transfers are very well organized with luggage assistance all the way to and from the hotel, well worth itI would recommend...
