Hiking the Cinque Terre, I was leaving Vernazza for Monterosso Al Mare and saw that they had an early breakfast. I'm vegan so I find it hard to find good options but I gave it a go as I wanted to eat early. I honestly received probably the kindest customer service I have ever experienced. The staff were so helpful and friendly. When I explained that I was vegan I was told that if I had contacted them they would have had something ready for me when I arrived and told me that if I was coming back they would have something ready for me. I was devastated that I was heading another direction and wouldn't be back. I had a simple foccacia sandwich and removed the cheese, it was still delicious and with a coffee and bottled water was inexpensive, less than 10 euros. Highly recommended. Really really positive, helpful, friendly and passionate staff. The most well deserved 5 star review! If I wasn't vegan, the selection of croissants and cannolis looked unbelievably delicious! And the coffee was great. An added benefit is that it was nice and quiet because its about 5 minutes from the main busy area. Pippo pasta next door also has a good vegan pomodoro option...

Best hot chocolate in Italy!

We saw this restaurant while taking and evening walk and after reading all the reviews we couldn't resist trying it. Their hot chocolate was amazing. It tastes like real chocolate, creamy and delicately sweet. I've tried to make a lot of hot chocolate recipes at home using the best ingredients I could find but I was never able to get the same consistency and delicious taste. You could tell that it was made with quality ingredients, not a cheap hot chocolate mix. We also got a Panna Cotta with fruits which was very good. The owner was very kind and fun to talk to. When we came again in the morning, we got croissants fresh out of the oven and a lot of pastries with coffee. The croissants were still warm and very buttery and flaky. Some of the reviews said the food was overpriced but it really wasn't. The cost might have been a little higher than in other places but the quality of the food was a lot better than anywhere I've been before. The food was amazing and I regret finding this place so late in my trip, otherwise we would be eating...

My family ate breakfast here the three mornings we had in Vernazza. After eating the first day here, there was no question we'd come back the next two mornings! Their pastries are delicious and hard to resist. Their ricotta croissant is made special throughout the morning and is well worth any wait if they are out. Heavenly! I hesitated about it since "ricotta" in a croissant didn't sound so great. Glad I tried it as I had it each day. My husband who doesn't even like ricotta liked this! We also came here for dinner and weren't disappointed. Their food is just delicious! It is also nice that this restaurant is open earlier for dinner than most of the other restaurants that start dinner service after 6:30 pm (at the earliest). Sometimes it isn't convenient to eat this late, especially with a family. The service is friendly and fun. If we could, we'd come back just so we could eat here! Oh, credit cards aren't accepted for breakfast (bring cash as it is worth skipping the card for this). Credit cards are...

After checking out the glowing reviews, my partner and I stopped in for breakfast before hiking to Corniglia. The owner was super friendly, the service excellent and the ricotta croissant was very good. We were happy with the experience and went again for dinner. Unfortunately it felt like a totally different restaurant. We arrived for a very early dinner (or late lunch according to Italian standards). The service was mediocre as the server was next door frequently chatting to the other restaurant workers. I ordered the Ligurian ravioli (it was tasty), but the portion size was tiny. It felt like 1 Euro per piece of pasta! My partner ordered the seafood linguine. It was also tasty, but we had to crack open the shrimp - not a big deal, but it was a bit messy. Not quite what we expected, and the dinner most expensive meal (but sadly the lowest value) that we had in Italy.

I highly recommend making reservations at Il Pirata delle 5 Terre. Despite not offering scenic views, the food, service, ambiance, and desserts surpass those of the waterfront restaurants. This establishment truly deserves 5 stars, offering unbeatable pricing. As someone who usually struggles to finish all courses, thoroughly enjoying my appetizer, main course, dessert, and coffee speaks volumes. My husband and I couldn't stop praising our dining experience; in fact, we returned for both breakfast and lunch! The personalized recommendations and time spent with the chef and staff made our visits truly unforgettable. Among all the restaurants we tried throughout our trip to Rome, this was hands down the best. Additionally, if you're visiting during peak season, be sure to book your reservations in advance.
