Our group of six spent two full weeks in Italy. We visited Milan, Lake Como, the Dolomites, Venice, Parma, La Spezia, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples, and the Amalfi Coast. Why do you even care about where we went? – Because out of all of the place we had sandwiches, Pippo A Vernazza was our VERY favorite! Let me tell you why… 1) We had the fresh tuna with pomodoro and stracchino cheese, the regular pesto sandwich with pomodoro and stracchino cheese, and pasta with pesto. We have ranked these sandwiches as our VERY favorite in all of our Italy travels. 2) In addition to the amazing food, the service was impeccable. We had got up super early that morning and had hiked the Sentiero Azzurro without any breakfast. The staff here was SO kind. We even ordered an extra sandwich, and they didn’t act as if we were greedy or rude. 3) The crowds in Cinque Terre are no joke. On the main strip there is legitimately a roar of tourists. Pippo A Vernazza is a level of heaven that is just above the roar, just above the tourists, and generally just above everything else. It was a 3 minute walk past the train station, but everything is quiet when you get there. We thoroughly enjoyed our Aperol spritz in silence as we waited for our food. To the team of Pippo A Vernazza, thank you for the most magical lunch. Your food is epic, and I am so appreciative for the opportunity to have visited...
Read moreMy family - long time visitors to Vernazza - was thrilled to discover the talented and friendly Stefano & Chiara and their “farm to table” super fresh Vernazza specialties during our visit this week. Their warmth and love of food and their appreciation of the special place that is the Cinque Terre comes through the minute you step into their tiny shop and with the first bite you will be hooked! Each day there is a daily special based on what looks good in the fish market that day, to compliment their staples of trofie al pesto or pomodoro, foccacia sandwiches (fresh tuna with perfect tomato and sweet house pickled red onions was a highlight). We loved the tegame (anchovy and potato/tomato dish of Vernazza) special so much! Tiramisu and panna cotta are very good and there is a nice selection of super cold wine and beer available for take out. Also love their commitment to “no plastic” in their take out materials! During our week’s stay in Vernazza we ordered take away from Pippo a Vernazza 4 times (!), and ate peacefully on the terrace of our rental apartment. Highly recommend - it’s worth the walk to the...
Read moreLured in by the fantastic Google reviews, and ultimately disappointed.
The first problem is their interior seating. I don't mind eating on a counter top, but the seats are too low and the counter is too high. which makes the dinning experience very uncomfortable. I guess this is the reason all the people choose to eat outside, nobody willing to come inside.
The second problem is the food. I ordered the cod, and it comes in three tiny pieces, that is all. For 14 euro I expect the food in much bigger portion. And only one out of three piece is fresh and tender, the other two are hard to chew. One filet has a large fish bone and fortunately I was careful and did not eat it, otherwise it could have send me straight to the hospital.
I ordered a seafood dish at another street food store in Manarola yesterday, the price happen to be 14 euro as well. For the same price, it is a much bigger portion, and it comes with five different types of seafood, including octopus, shrimp, clam, oyster, and fish. In comparison, this place is over-hyped and provides...
