The sushi here is very westernized. I've been living in Japan since 2016, and this is the first time I've encountered American-style sushi rolls. I'm not the kind of person to say that it's not "real sushi" and therefore not good. On the contrary, the rolls were actually quite good.

Additionally, I heard the staff speaking perfect English to other customers, and I was very impressed. It seemed like every staff member was able to communicate well. I'm sure that's comforting to guests who don't speak Japanese.

But I'm not willing to give 5 stars for two reasons:

First, there was simply no way to get traditional sushi without the westernized rolls. Everything was good, but it wasn't what I expected from a sushi place. Every dish contained fried food and salmon—two things I prefer to avoid. The fried parts of our meal were a bit too oily as well. That said, the more traditional parts of the meal (unagi chawan-mushi, marinated sashimi) were fantastic. I wish I could've ordered them without all the other stuff.

Next, the wait for our food was quite long considering it wasn't full when we arrived. Of course it was lunchtime on a holiday, but I was surprised when they started warning incoming customers about a 40-minute wait even with open tables.

If you have a craving for westernized roll sushi, you can't/don't want to speak Japanese, and you're okay paying tourist prices, those are all totally valid reasons to go here. The food is great despite being more in line with what you'd find in an American Japanese restaurant.

If you're looking for traditional sushi and more value for your yen, you should probably...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Shaw's Sushi Bar & Dining, and I can confidently say that the sushi here is among the best I have ever experienced! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated not only by the inviting ambiance but also by the exquisite presentation of the dishes. Each sushi roll was a work of art, beautifully plated and almost too stunning to eat—definitely deserving of a five-star restaurant!

While the prices may seem high at first glance, I assure you that the value is absolutely worth it. The meal begins with an array of flavorful appetizers that are both generous and satisfying, ensuring that you leave feeling full and content. Each bite was bursting with taste, setting the stage for the star of the show—the sushi.

The customer service at Shaw's was exceptional. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. They were eager to recommend their favorites, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

However, I did encounter a couple of minor disappointments during my visit. The miso soup was surprisingly bland and lacked the depth of flavor I had anticipated. Additionally, I was a bit disheartened to learn that they ran out of one of the popular roll options just 11 minutes after opening. Given how incredible the sushi was, I can understand why it sells out quickly!

Despite these small hiccups, my overall experience at Shaw's Sushi Bar & Dining was phenomenal. I left with a full stomach and a smile on my face, already planning my next visit. If you're a sushi lover, don’t hesitate to treat yourself; this place is...

If you're a sushi lover like me, then you absolutely must visit Shaw's Sushi Bar & Dining. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that sets the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.

The sushi here is simply incredible. Each piece is crafted with care and attention to detail, using only the freshest ingredients. From the delicate slices of sashimi to the perfectly seasoned rice in each roll, every bite is a flavor explosion in your mouth. The texture is spot on too - tender, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

One standout dish that I can't recommend enough is the chef's special sushi platter. It's a work of art that's almost too beautiful to eat, featuring an array of nigiri and maki rolls that showcase the chef's incredible skills. Each piece is a unique and creative flavor combination that will leave you wanting more.

But it's not just the sushi that makes Shaw's Sushi Bar & Dining so special. The service here is top-notch, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff that goes above and beyond to ensure that your dining...

Shaw’s might be easy to dismiss if you’re spending a short time in Kawaguchiko. That might be because of their lack of reviews (they’re new). It could be because they’re directly next to the station (which I know multiple people tend to find off-putting). Or it could be because the gleaming glass building feels almost out of place between the 7-Eleven it sits next to, and the older buildings in it’s vicinity. Shaw’s was one of the best restaurants we visited in our time in Japan. We had amazing sushi in both Tokyo and Kyoto, and this was comparable to the best we had in either city. The staff are attentive, the restaurant itself is beautifully designed (but didn’t feel pretentious), and there wasn’t a single part of either of the sets we ordered that we could find any fault in. The tempura was crisp without being oily, the cod roe was fresh and delicious, and every piece of fish on each sushi roll was melt in the mouth. If you’re in Kawaguchiko for a weekend, a day, or even a couple of hours, Shaw’s is more than worth a visit.
