Non Japanese, run by Chinese descendant! Be aware of the lady called Angela, extremely rude person, despite working at traditional Japanese Tea House, or what it looks like, it seems that she hasn't yet learned the meaning of Omotenashi.

Booked online, got the reservation email, paid for it, received the payment and Tea Ceremony booking confirmation. However, the next day I got an email asking me to change my reservation because now they suddenly had a bigger group coming and they would give preference to them (I guess they only care about money).

After that, I confronted them asking for a proper explanation, next thing, received an unpleasant call from Angela, in a condescending and rude tone, simply saying: "We don't want your party to come to our shop, we won't serve you, I am the one doing the Tea Ceremony experiences, and I don't want you", of course without any apology from her.

There are plenty of REAL Japanese Tea Houses in Kyoto, please avoid this place at all costs, and look for the authentic houses run and owned by Japanese...

This was an okay experience. It was super cool witnessing a 5th generation grand Tea Master perform the tea rituals. The tea house is beautifully restored and tea tasted great. However, we reserved tickets in advance and found we were in a group of 20+ for our time slot. This was surprising based on the cost of the ticket which was quite high. It felt very crowded in the space and because of the large group we were rushed when it was time to make the matcha tea ourselves. A so so experience. But I disappointed a little bit.

Unfortunately, when I heard about the tea house and history, I expected that the usual grand master Mr. Hashimoto, would show up as the samurai spirit uniqueness compared to other tea house. That the reason why I book this with little higher price instead of the one near my hotel in Gion with lower price.

I did value the time and experience the female tea master shared 🙇‍♀️ but I think what you've posted on the website should be followed.
