Tsujiya Shichijoten is an Izakaya specialized in chicken cuisines especially the star dish chicken qyoza. You can order many different chicken parts for yakitori grill too.
Our hotel made a reservation for us. Thank goodness. When we arrived the waitress said no more seats unless we have made a reservation. We did! Still we need to wait for a little while for a table to be cleared on the second floor. Although we would like to sit at the bar to watch chefs preparing our food, however later we appreciated the quietness and the relaxing ambiance on the second floor especially after a long day walking and sightseeing (Ryozen Kannon shrine, Gion Shirakawa Tatsumi Bridge area, Starbucks Kyoto BAL and night walking tour at Gion.. at least walking over 20,000 steps! 🤪🤪)
At 9pm we were exhausted yet looking forward to an appetizing dinner. Yup, we did not feel disappointed: the food was superb and the service was courteous and welcoming (including the dumbwaiter!🤪🤪) We felt at ease to scan the QR code and order from the English menu. ( the beauty of modern technology).
We ordered the most popular panfried and boiled chicken gyoza (dumplings): the best gyoza I tasted in Japan so far, fried chicken, grilled chicken wings, omelette. Our eyes started to twinkle and our mouth drooled every time we heard the dumbwaiter roaring up from downstairs kitchen.
We ate so many gyoza and chicken yakitori that we could not spare even a little spot in our stomach to try the famous mapo tofu. We will save our stomach space for it next time!
Strongly recommended Tsujiya Shichijoten for qyoza lovers! Reasonable and inexpensive for the food quality you get from Tsujiya. Awesome Izakaya vibes. We give 11.5 out of 10 stars. 0.5 star is deducted from the climbing up and down the narrow staircase. Just a joke. Would come back again if we...
Read moreEntered into this store because the other store we would like to go was occupied. Was told by the staff that we need to order drink for each person. Told him using Google translate that we both do not drink, can we order non-alcoholic drink instead? He then immediately gave us 2 bottles of 0% beer. We were a bit shocked, and asked if we could order soft drinks instead of the beer. He was a little upset and walked away. Approached by the same staff again to write google review to get one ice cream for each review. In the end nothing was given.
Food is nice especially the mapo tofu, it’s worth trying and go well as supper. A little hint of spiciness helps to elevate the appetite. They also gave each customer one appetiser at no cost. It was great too! Overall experience was good, just that a little misunderstanding turn the experience a...
Read moreAfter being completely soaked to the bone in rain, we stopped in here out of shear desperation to dry and fill our bellies. Let me tell you, this place did not disappoint. The fried chicken was hands down the best piece of meat I’ve put it my mouth, perfectly breaded, light, toasty, amazing. The addictive cabbage was so good we ordered multiple rounds. And the drinks were cheap and flowing freely. They had an English menu and everyone at the table could peruse on their phones and add whatever they wanted. The staff were incredibly kind and prompt, bonus on the vibes sitting upstairs and watching your food pop up from a little service elevator ding, order up. I felt like we went completely overboard with ordering and still our meal totaled about $100 usd and completely brought our party back from the dead. Highly...
