Karamon National Treasure It is a four-legged gate with a cypress bark roof and a Karahafu style, filled with gorgeous decorative carvings from the Momoyama period. It is also called the ``Nichigurashi Gate'' because the carvings are so beautiful that you forget when the sun sets. (From Nishi Honganji website)

The Karamon gate of Nishi Honganji Temple is said to have been built between 1573 (1st year of Tensho) and 1614 (19th year of Keicho era). It is also said that Karamon was built at Fushimi Castle during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and was moved from Fushimi Castle in 1618 (Genna 4). Karamon is said to be the oldest building within Nishi Honganji Temple. Restoration work began in June 2018 (Heisei 30) and was completed in March 2022 (Reiwa 4).

One of the “National Treasure Momoyama Sankaramon” It is a four-legged gate with a height of 8.6m, a width of 5.37m, and a depth of 4.4m, with a cypress bark roof and a Karahafu style, and is one of the masterpieces of Momoyama architecture. There are gorgeous carvings such as lions and peonies, giraffes and clouds, phoenixes, tigers, leopards, peacocks, waves, dragons, and cranes, and the sun sets in their splendor. It is also called

Nichigurashi-mon'' because it forgets things. Since the construction date is estimated to be after the Keicho era (1596-1615), there is no possibility that it was built during the Hideyoshi era. It is counted as one of the

Karamon Gate w zamku Nijō w Kioto to jedno z najbardziej efektownych wejść w Japonii. Zachwyca bogatą ornamentyką – na drzwiach i belkach widnieją motywy żurawi, piór feniksa, peonii, chmur oraz lwów, symbolizujących długowieczność, ochronę i dostatek. Wszystko to w złoconych rzeźbach i malowidłach, które świadczą o kunszcie rzemieślników z okresu Momoyama. Charakterystyczny dach w kształcie karahafu (zakrzywiony w chińskim stylu) oraz masywne słupy nadają bramie majestatyczny wygląd. Karamon stanowi główne wejście do pałacu Ninomaru, będącego rezydencją szogunów Tokugawa w Kioto. To doskonałe miejsce na zdjęcia i chwilę refleksji nad historią...
