As tourists from Australia who love good food and authentic experiences this place just down the road from our hotel near Kyoto station was the best restaurant we've tried so far in a week in Japan and compared to any restaurant anywhere this place is top notch. All web searches said go to Gion but we tried local and were so lucky to have made that decision. Upstairs, shoes off, sitting in a friendly-for-us table with a little sunken area for feet rather than straight on the floor was the perfect balance between authentic Japanese and my western hips. The service from young ladies (seems to be part time college students) lucks attention as they did not explain dishes after few dishes served. In addition, even my glass was empty they did not try to refill it or take an order. Apart from this experience, the service was OK. So this made -1 star in overall which was really really pity and I hope the restaurant can manage to control their quality more seriously as they are only the reason which could make the score lower.
