So this place ended up being a happy accident. I was leading my wife to a ramen place I had been to the night before. I made a wrong turn and stumbled into this place accidentally. When we were already inside, we decided to go with it. While the staff spoke absolutely no English, they had an English menu and did everything they could to make the experience the best it could be. The food? To die for. Never had better yakitori in my life. If you're able to get a table, please do not pass this place up. I know we will definitely be coming back next time we're in Kyoto.
Edit: I'm sorry some foreigners have had issues with this place, but if it means anything, those reviews were from a while back. My wife and I are American with limited Japanese language abilities, and they went out of their ways to make sure we had a great time. If you don't speak Japanese or can't read Kanji, please don't let that be an excuse to pass...

Honestly felt it wasn't seasoned well enough. Meat was pretty bland, texture was so so. Only felt the tori negi, potatoes and wasabi octopus were acceptable. You need to order 1 drink per person, standard rule in most Japan eateries. Atmosphere is great tho, the vibes is great. Dim lighting and bar seats means you get to see the grilling in action. You can give it a try,...

We knew it would be a gamble after seeing Google reviews say this place does not welcome foreigners but as everywhere else in Japan was friendly so far we tried anyway. We were welcomed with the normal "Irasshaimase!" and the host comes to greet us. When I told them we had a party of 2 in my not so confident Japanese the host face changed from a smile to a frown and we were told they were full. She couldn't kick us out of there fast enough. Only 2 people in the restaurant and plenty of open seats. Skip this place if you are a foreigner and not fluent...
