Tucked away near Kyoto Aquarium, Bossche is a delightful breakfast spot that brings a touch of sweetness to the start of your day. Its small, cozy atmosphere adds to its charm, making it a perfect place for a quiet morning meal before diving into a day of sightseeing. We decided to stop here before heading to the aquarium, and it was exactly what we needed.
The pancakes stole the show—fluffy, just the right level of sweetness, and beautifully plated with whipped cream, fresh berries, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Each bite was light yet satisfying, capturing that classic comfort food vibe that’s hard to beat. We also sampled the French toast, but it turned out to be softer than I usually prefer; it occasionally verged on mushy. If you’re looking for structure, definitely go for the pancakes—they’re clearly the standout here.
Though the shop is small, adding to its intimate feel, it can mean a short wait during busier times. But the atmosphere, coupled with the delicious food, makes it worth a visit. Bossche is an ideal spot for a relaxing, flavorful breakfast in the heart of Kyoto!

Read moreWe came to Bossche after extensive research, looking for pancake places around Kyoto. The cafe is very small (5-6 tables depending on arrangement, maximum capacity of 14 people, or 16 people, if some are willing to squeeze), but I enjoyed the atmosphere of this tiny, relaxed corner located right next to the Kyoto aquarium. The pancakes themselves were of great quality and the always-visible chef seemed to be enjoying his work, taking great care in the preparation of the pancakes. The singular waitress was extremely attentive, combining the Japanese waiting style of leaving the customer alone until called and a more Western style (that I'm used to).
Overall, to me it's a place that's hard to go wrong with! The only thing to be wary of is the small capacity, so perhaps choose a slightly quieter...
Read moreThe best pancake I've ever had in Kyoto. And I've tried many places! Sure, they are not as fancy looking as those fluffy pancakes you see on social media, but both the texture, the flavor and the consistency are perfect. The cream and the sauce are subtle, but they definitely compliment the pancake base well. They are also very fulfilling, which was welcome after a day walking around Kyoto station. All of that for a very reasonable price, cheaper than many of the more popular pancake cafes in gion or Shijo! The only downside is that it's a little far from Kyoto station but if you're already around for the railway museum or the aquarium, I definitely recommend that you take a break...
