"Our world cannot live without love." -Sheeta
I almost said one of each, but my dermatologist in Japan said I needed to cut back on fried-foods, if I wanted that J-drama complexion! So kk I only went with three fried and a big cup of draft beer!
Hanayori Kiyo-e is a popular spot at Nishiki Market. The tasty fried goodies and affordability is a win-win with tourists and Japanese. There's always a line, but it moves quickly and before I can say "花よりキヨエ" it's my turn! I order some I've never seen before; the chicken & matcha, the creamed corn, and classic curry. I add draft beer!
Service is extremely fast and the turnover of croquettes as fast too, so you'll always receive the fresh batch. Seats are onsite and communal. Ngl it gets crowded, however seats do open up quickly. I managed to grab a spot near the window and immediately munch away! Mmm! My favorite was the creamed corn, but all were delicious! The icy cold beer paired perfectly!
A perfect snack to fuel you as you explore Nishiki Market's other goodies! I can't wait to return!

Read moreWe had a snack of yuba cream korokke at this shop inside Nishiki Market in the afternoon. The market was overwhelmed with visitors that made walking difficult, so we decided to sit and had a snack. The croquette or korokke in Japanese pronunciation was quite good and the yuba cream is their most popular filling but they also have other options. The cost was ¥ 400 which is reasonable price in such touristy place, but they only take cash payment.
I wish the Kyoto government / authority can try to better manage the visitors flow into Nishiki market since currently it is totally hard to move around due to...
Read moreOne of my favourite eateries in Kyoto! The croquettes / korokke are crunchy on the outside and warm, fluffy and creamy on the inside. Vegetarian options - my favourite is the pumpkin korokke, it’s naturally sweet and a real comfort food. Grab one on your way to work or school, or enjoy it as a snack that warms your heart and stomach on a rainy day or fuel up for your sightseeing tour. It's cheap yet delicious! There's a small space where you can eat - which is convenient - since eating while walking around the market is...
