I really don't understand where all the good reviews came from. The staff were not kind to people who couldn't speak Japanese. They looked very chill to us because we spoke English. They smiled when we asked, but suddenly made face after that. One of the waitresses had long fingernails, and her fingers touched the foods in the side dishes.... didn't look good. Should be careful. They looked very tired. I don't want to get services from the people who show their tiredness on all their faces. Feel uncomfortable. The food wasn't good enough for that price. The meat was very tough. We couldn't chew and swallow. So we just spitted later. Another big thing was that there was a hidden cost. They charged us 350 yens per person for the side dishes. I don't know if it is normal for korean food in Japan or not. I might not take a look at the menu carefully. But I never had thought about the extra cost for side dishes I never asked. When I asked for the reason about that, they made a face at us again. They said it was charged automatically. You should know before visiting there. My experience with food was very good in Japan except here. It made us very disappointed. I usually take a look at the reviews to choose the meal. This restaurant has a lot of good reviews. I wish I had the same experience with them. But it would be hard because I will not visit here again. I also found that there are a lot of good reviews for the stars without any comments in 1 year ago. Maybe the owner was changed a...
Read moreWe originally went to a different KBBQ restaurant, however, they ran out of meat so we stumbled across this restaurant as it was within a 10 minute walking distance from our accommodation.
And you might wonder why we’re eating Korean food in Kyoto but I heard good things and needed my Korean fix 😂
Everything about this restaurant was decent. Nothing really exceeded my expectations except the rice balls which was the star of the show LOL The meats (we ordered outside skirt and beef tongue) were tender and I didn’t expect it to be marinated as it doesn’t state it on the menu; they also do charge a cover fee of 350yen per person.
We came around 930pm and while it does say that it closes at 11pm, they did last call at 10pm. Coming from the States, we’re familiar with last call and understand the concept so didn’t mind that too much. HOWEVER they are cash only. I do wish they wrote it before entering and/or it was told prior to ordering as some people simply may not have cash!
We also ordered rice wine and I’m used to it being ordered by the bottle, but they didn’t clarify or ask (only asked how many glasses we needed) and it was 900yen per person for a small amount.
The waitress did cook for us and she was very sweet, just wish she clarified and explained it better. But given there was a language barrier, she did the best she could. It did feel not as welcoming compared to the locals sitting near us, but I get it.
Would I recommend the place? Probably not but the rice balls and soybean soup (little...
Read moreI made reservations here the day prior. When we sat down we informed the server that my mom had a gluten allergy, and we requested all the meat to be made with just salt instead of soy sauce. I didn’t get the server’s name (he studied abroad in the US and Ireland), but he was SO incredibly helpful when we were trying to figure out what dishes had soy sauce, and he knew right away what she could eat. They made a mistake with the first meat that came out and after we realized there was soy he immediately change the grill. I hate to be a pain in the butt customer but he made us feel comfortable and welcome to eat there. Also the food was delicious! We ordered the beef and the pork ribs and both were amazing. I also liked the onions and kimchi. Thanks for...
