Saint Marc Cafe in Kyoto's Kawaramachi Sanjo area offers a relaxed atmosphere and a convenient location, attracting a steady stream of students and locals. The spacious interior has a modern design with ample seating, making it a good spot for both quick coffee breaks and longer study sessions. The cafe is well-lit and clean, creating a comfortable environment for those looking to relax or work.
The coffee is decent but not particularly remarkable. While it serves a range of drinks, including espresso-based beverages, iced coffees, and matcha options, it doesn’t stand out as a destination for coffee aficionados. The matcha drinks are a solid choice, offering a smooth, mildly sweet flavor that isn’t overpowering, making it a great option for both regular matcha drinkers and newcomers.
The desserts are the highlight of the menu. Saint Marc Cafe is known for its selection of sweet treats, including pastries, cakes, and their signature choco cro (chocolate croissant). The choco cro is a standout item, with its flaky, buttery exterior and warm, gooey chocolate filling. It pairs perfectly with any drink, making it a must-try for anyone visiting the cafe. Other dessert options, like cream puffs and parfaits, are equally delicious and provide a nice variety for those with different tastes. The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the quality of the desserts.
One of the cafe’s major attractions for students is the availability of free Wi-Fi and plenty of power outlets, making it a great place to study or work on projects. The cafe often has a lively atmosphere due to its popularity with students, but it’s generally not too noisy to be uncomfortable. For those in need of a break, there is a toilet on the second floor, which is a convenient touch, especially for those spending long hours at the cafe.
Overall, Saint Marc Cafe offers a solid experience for anyone in the area looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced spot to enjoy coffee, desserts, or a place to study. While the coffee may not be the main draw, the desserts and student-friendly amenities make it a...
Read moreHighly recommend for matcha dessert lovers! This was one of the few cafes open early in the morning (8:30ish) and we ordered the Matcha Danish French Toast (the one in the photo) which came with a side of matcha soft serve for us to spread over the toast. Also ordered an iced uji matcha latte, which was very tasty and sweet, tasted like genuine matcha and wasn't too sweet, which I like. However next time I'll try ordering this latte with less or no ice because I felt like it took up a lot of the drink. Otherwise fantastic! We also ordered the chocolate and mochi crossaint (it was the first pastry when we walked in), it had a distinct but good flavor. Yuzu tea was also delicious, there's no tea in it but it was made out of real yuzu flavoring and...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious pastries and pasta! Highly recommend their sausage pastry and their mushroom pastry. All their pastries are very reasonably priced and you can upgrade to have a drink for 60 yen! However, I did not like their royal milk tea at all. It was really nasty and I would avoid it. Every single one of their pastries that I tried was delicious though!
Overall, great little place to get breakfast or lunch, with a wide selection of seating and very friendly and accommodating staff. Very foreigner...
