Shizen Shusai Ichishun — Restaurant in Kyoto

My first ever negative comments on a Japanese restuarant, and my worst experience in Japan ever. The waiter asked me and my partner to wait outside the restuarant, after 20mins, there are quite a few tables gone, there are no others waiting outside the restuarant, so I thought the waiter forget about me and I asked him, he requested me to wait outside for a little bit longer. At last I waited for 50mins and still not allow to get in the restuarant, and those tables are stay empty. Obviously they wont have that much booking at 9pm.

Im ok if they dont want to do business with foreigners, but should they just directly say those tables are booked so I dont have to wait ourside the restuarant till 9pm with cold wind. (note, my partner speaks Japanese so this is not a communication issue)

What a shame. At last we went to another restuarant not far away and waiters are very nice as most of the Japanese restuarant do. Stay away from this restuarant if you are not...

While this restaurant had some positive reviews, our dining experience unfortunately didn't live up to expectations.

We ordered the deluxe sashimi set (¥3500) and were disappointed to find both the tuna and salmon were excessively sinewy. While we understand some sinew is normal, this was far beyond what we've experienced elsewhere. The presentation was also quite messy (see attached photo, taken after only two pieces were removed).

We also ordered the だし生麩 which never arrived. Upon checking with the server, we were told the order hadn't been recorded. On a positive note, the 牛すじ was quite tasty, and the owner was apologetic about the sashimi issue, appearing to be a pleasant person.

Hopefully, our experience was an anomaly due to...

We almost entered by chance, since they allowed us having dinner without a reservation. But beside that, the attention is superb, very kind. They speak English and also have a full translation of the menu. The prices are a bit high but the quality of the food is definitely worth it. Sashimi is really good, big slices.
