Wagyu Restaurant Steak & Wine Yamamura Gyūbei Kyoto — Restaurant in Kyoto

We came to this raustaurant because of the good reviews and because it apparently has a butcher's shop on the premises. Our table was cold as it was in the draught of the open door, the kitchen probably doesn't have a proper extractor fan.

Our meal was modest all in all. Although I had tried to make it clear to the waiter with a translator app that we wanted the main course and starter separately, a sad plate of fries arrived 30 minutes before the starter came. I pointed this out to him, he apologized and said the fries were free. So far so good.

The starter, wagyu sushi, so little meat and so much rice that you couldn't taste anything except the over-acidified rice.

The main course "specialty of the house" Wagyu on spring onions. Cold steak roasted the day before on what felt like a kilo of white onions. Tastelessly bland and little to do with the Wagyu I know.

At the end, when I wanted to pay, the surprise: fries on the bill. Everyone involved lost the little English they spoke and made me understand via app that the fries are not free, for traditional Japanese reasons fries are delivered 30 minutes before the starter.

Today I longed for a Wagyu Filet Steak from the grill and I got a very good one at this steak house near Ōmiya Station. What makes this place lose a point is the careless treatment of the salad that comes along with the steak. The edges of the leaves were brown meaning that they have been cut at noon or earlier.
