It was our last night in Kyoto and we were feeling for some ramen. The plan was to hit up Kyoto Station and eat at one of the shops there.
I love Ramen but I do not eat pork. Being in Japan can be a challenge since pork is prominent in their diet. We were on a city bus to Kyoto Station and I did a quick Google search for "beef ramen near me". From this search, Hyakusai popped up.
We got off the bus at the next stop and made our way by foot to the location. This spot in located in a very bust part of the city and the whole strip was just buzzing.
When we got there, I asked if they took card and they said yes. There was some seats available for our family so we were seated right away. The service was very quick once we decided what we wanted. The ramen was superb and they also served Taiwan beer and other adult beverages. Their gyoza was also great and the menu featured items for children. The staff was young, friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed our fill and were even able to make a video of them making the noodles right there in the shop. Next time we're in Kyoto, we'll certainly stop by...
Read moreFound it by chance on or stroll through the market. We were in the mood for some Chinese food so we thought we would give it a try. I had low expectations after a less than stellar experience in a different “Chinese” restaurant. We went in the menu looked good so far. We saw a young guy pulling the noodles by hand. Ramen means literally pulled noodles. We were seated and they even spoke Chinese so everything looked good so far. But the most important is the food. And boy it didn’t disappoint. Really delicious. The best noodles I had in my trip to Japan. We went to some great noodle places in our trip but this one had the best texture on the noodles. And amazing price as well. Less than 1000 yen for the Lanzhou noodles. We also ordered many other small dishes like prawn dumplings and lamb dumplings, I prefer Cantonese har gow though. We also had a chicken dish that I loved. It was a flavour bomb. The spicy sichuan chicken. And the boba was really good as well. Definitely among the better I have tasted in Japan. All in all a great...
Read moreDelicious Lanzhou Noodles. I had them for the first time with 0 expectations last year on my trip to Kyoto. I thought about them even after I left. This year I came back and it was the first meal I ate. I've already come back twice this trip.
For those who haven't had Lanzhou Noodles before - it is a beef based soup with handmade noodles (thin or wide you can choose). Cilantro is optional.
The broth is delicious and has the tiniest kick from the chili oil, similar to a tingling sensation - not burning. I can't handle spice but I really enjoy this.
A refreshing taste and great value. You get a lot of noodles and are sure to leave full.
Personally I don't love the cut of beef in it but I eat the soup for the broth and noodles so I don't mind.
I definitely recommend giving it a try if you like beef flavored soups or ramen.
The photo is after mixing it together so you can see how many noodles there are.
Staff is also very friendly and welcoming to tourists. Always...
