Magnificent but is it worth the wait? We went on a weekday in January for dinner at around 8pm. You have to first put your name on the list so there is not like an actual queue outside so arguably you could shop for a bit nearby if there is a lot of people above you on the list. We waited for about 1.5 hours at peak dining hours. There are two sides of the restaurant and we were arranged to the left side, in which you directly see the chef and 'stove' where as the other side, more often arranged when you have 4+ people, is the usual tables with a kitchen in the back. There is English menu. We were lucky to be seated right in front of the chef. After we ordered, we could directly see he start cooking. Do expect to wait for about 20 minutes. I thought it'd be done in under 10 minutes but in fact it has to be flipped multiple times and had the lid on to steam it for a while. It was not my first okonomiyaki in my life and it did meet my expectations. We ordered a rice cake & cheese and a triple okonomiyaki. Everyone has a metal surface at your table even if you are on the other side of the restaurant to keep your food warm. The triple one is a no-brainer if it is your first okonomiyaki of your life and the rice cake one is pretty interesting and is worth the try. There is only one chef who I believe is the shopkeeper and since we had waited outside, I had never seen him stopped working other than a few bathroom breaks so we cant really blame for the wait and the okonomiyaki indeed takes quite a while to be cooked. But overall, we waited for over 2 hours to have my food ready in front of us including the queue so my advice is maybe jot your name down and then go shop or eat some takoyaki first and then come back and wait for the receptionist to call...
Read moreWe found this place because of the line of people outside. We returned the next day 15 minutes before opening (opening is at noon on Sundays) and still had to wait 1:30 to get in.
You need to write your name on the list to be seated. They collect orders from the first group to be seated to hurry the process, but it’s still a long wait.
There are English menus, which help.
I don’t think any Okonomiyaki would be worth such a wait, but we really didn’t find this Okonomiyaki to be so much different than anywhere else. The sauce was really nice, but there wasn’t enough of it to fully flavor the cabbage.
We ordered prawn Okonomiyaki & the Pork & kimchi Negiyaki. We preferred the crunch and flavor of the Negiyaki, but it didn’t have the sauce. The Negiyaki did have beautiful carmelization and I think the kimchi really enhanced the flavor. The prawn Okonomiyaki had 4 prawns and they were all in one 1/4 of the pancake.
I was also very disappointed there was no Bonito for the topping. It seemed most Okonomiyaki places had long lines, but I think this one was possibly the longest. It might be better to just aim for 14:00, as the first wave of people are gone and there are...
