Stumbled into my lifeās best latte in Osaka āļø A moody morning with serious Black Butler vibes š¤ The morning after landing in Osaka, the rain had just cleared. First mission of the day? Coffeeānon-negotiable. I left my riverside inn near Dojima, wandered through Nakanoshimaās quiet mix of water and architecture, and eventually spotted a sleek black-and-gold sign tucked behind an escalator: GLITCH. This isnāt your typical Umeda or Shinsaibashi hotspot. It sits just off the cityās main axis, in a calm stretch of central Osaka. The vibe? Industrial minimalism meets Tokyo edge: tall ceilings, black wood beams, steel structures, soft light pouring in through floor-to-ceiling windows. A matte-black espresso machine catches the sun like polished obsidian. Jazz hums through the spaceālaid-back, perfectly measured. I arrived early, before opening, and waited on a dusty blue sofa outside. True to Japanese precision, the door clicked open at exactly 8:00 a.m. The menu read like incantations. Before I could decide, a barista in a black apron and white tee quietly stepped up and offered: "Colombia Huila El Diviso, Ombligon. Fruity, very fruity." There was something disarmingly sincere in the way he said itālike introducing an old friend. The beans, anaerobically fermented and sun-dried, came from Huila, Colombia. A risky process to manage, especially in humid conditionsāand even riskier to serve in an iced latte. But they pulled it off. One sip and I was stunned. Passionfruit and raspberry leapt forward first, then came a bright twist of yellow plum, swirling gently toward a crisp, charcoal-roasted finish. The milk mellowed the fruit notes without muting them, and the chilled temperature let the sweetness shine without becoming flat. I sat near the window. The space was shared with the commercial buildingās seating areaāquiet, open, and wonderfully unpretentious. At nearby tables: suited professionals, camera-laden travelers, all just⦠being. Glitch doesnāt force a vibe. It just attracts people who love good coffee. They offer around 18 different beans, each with a detailed flavor card. You can smell them, ask questions, pick your methodāpour over, espresso, cold brewāitās all up to you. Prices range from Ā„800 to Ā„5000 depending on your selection, and the baristas are kind and patient, whether you're speaking English or Japanese. I later found out Glitch started in Tokyo. Good. I know exactly where Iām going next time I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGlitch Coffee has an international reputation. I have been looking forward to experience their coffee. I had an outstanding coffee experience. We ordered Iced Latte using a Columbian bean. We also ordered Hand drip coffee using an Ethiopian bean. We ordered a cup of apple juice as well. We got an opportunity to choose the beans that were used to make our coffee. We got a short explanation on what each bean tastes like. The barista also let us try smelling roasted coffee beans. Iced Latte was very good. It had smooth, creamy flavour with notes of caramel and toffee. There was also strong fruity flavour. Mouth feel was velvety. Aftertaste was like caramel milkshake. Hand drip coffee was also excellent. It tasted strongly of apple. Mouth feel was smooth. Finish was very clean. There was a lasting fruity aftertaste. Apple juice tasted very fresh and sweet. The baristas who served us were all very friendly. They spoke fluent English which made the experience more smooth for us who speak limited Japanese. Ambience is grunge. The Cafe is situated on the ground floor of a large building complex. It has an open plan where the customer can choose a bar-like stool facing the baristas, or a seated area with retro furnitures. Overall, our experience at Glitch Coffee Osaka was second to none. It was an exceptional experience. I would highly suggest a visit and would love to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place looks great, amazing even. Vinyl records playing in the background in the smell of coffee, what's not to love?
Except, before queueing, the barista specifically told my group to GET THE DRINK BEFORE SITTING DOWN, NO SITTING BEFORE. Fine, fair, we queued, we were getting beans on top of the drink anyway as my brother had specifically requested for the beans from this shop. Infront of me was a Chinese lady decked out in designer clothes and a Leica camera, after she made her decision and was going to pay, her 2 other friends walked over from their seats (bear in mind we were literally stopped from the seats) and ordered more, effectively cutting the queue. That's fine, queue cutting is a norm in China, when I visit I do the same.
The one that really irked us was that the barista in charge of ushering the queue seemed to think we were the queue cutters, irritated that others were allowed to bend the rules we just bought whatever we needed and made it a take out.
If you want to make rules, perhaps you should actually enforce the said rules and not do targeted enforcement. For the coffee prices you charge I don't think it is difficult to just hire a part timer to ensure that the people don't actually sit before ordering. There were no signs indicating as well. Let's just say the...
