Gyukatsu Motomura has three locations in Osaka. This one is in Umeda by the main train station at Lucua Building on the 10th floor with many other restaurants.
We have been to one of their Tokyo branches. Be prepared to stay in line /queue but at least when you are closer to the front of the line there are chairs to sit down and the host gives you a menu to review. The menu is in both English and Japanese with pictures. Menu is simple- asking you how many slices of cutlets 1, 1.5, or 2. And if you want three types of combos- no drink, soft drinks/tea, or beer. The meal comes with cabbage salad, barley rice (can have one refill), and three sides- grated yam, spicy cod roe, and warabi mochi. On your table you have a couple of sauces and dressing for your salad. Also a bottle of water.
They provide a basket under your seat for your personal items.
Before you even go in they already get your order so when you get seated they have your table prepared. Our meal came pretty quick.
Very nice experience with deep fried beef steak.
The steak came with a fried battered outside and very rare inside. A hot stone plate was provided for you to cook the inside of the steak to your liking. The fresh wasabi was excellent with the steak.
We came at the peak of dinner hour and waited about 30-35 minutes before we sat. Totally worth the wait. My son and I would say that was our top 3 restaurants we ate in Osaka the 7 days...
Read moreDespite the raving reviews, long queues and enthusiastic recommendations by friends, we found the gyukatsu to be just "meh"... i.e. below average.
Located near our hotel and the Osaka city station, we came early to queue before the shop opened (I think around 1045 am). We waited around 45 mins in all. Service was good and efficient.
We ordered the double portion so it was very filling. The beef was very tender but all we tasted was either the tenderiser... or the sauces we used... we could not taste the lovely flavours of Japan beef probably coz it was over tenderised? Sorry, it wasn't one of our favourite meals in Osaka.
Update: Read on another review that this shop uses molded meat which is is made by mixing parts of meat that would otherwise be discarded with chemicals to create a mass of meat, and then inserting artificial fat into it to artificially create a "fat marbling". Not sure if it is true, but this may explain why we can't...

The steak came with a fried battery outer layer and very rare inside. A hot stone plate was provided for you to cook the inside of the steak to your liking. Several different sauces were available for you to spice up the steak. Recommend the ?wasabi based orange sauce👍 (couldn't really understand the English of the waitress) that came along with soy sauce.
The restaurant only provides one item basically, the fried steak, with a choice of portion sizes of steak and the addition of beverages to the meal. Free refill of rice (once) was also available on request.
Note that there will likely be a queue outside, we went there at 4pm on a Saturday and there was still a...
