I don't eat at McDonald's in the USA but this is Japan--and Osaka--so McDonald's here is a very different restaurant. 7Eleven in Jaoan is also MUCH better than in USA.
I stopped in for an 'Ebi' sandwich (shrimp / えび). They were out of the sauce that is normally on the Ebi Filet. I saked them to put the tartar sauce from the Filet-O-Fish sandwich on my Ebi but they refused, saying that they "can't" do it while acknowedging that they COULD.
This is classic Japanese commitment to following the rules, and that's usually admirable. In this case, though, THEY were out of sauce and somehow it was MY problem. It was a disappointing experience, overall.
On the upside, I now have a new story to tell about how rigid people are about following the rules, sometimes.
Ask me about going to Taco Bell. "Sorry, Sir. One sauce packet per taco only." I think they cost ¥5 (3¢) each. ...

Ordering via our phone was convenient and to have it delivered to our table. As a foreigner, you can download the McDonald's Japan app. I only ordered the Matcha Frappe drink. I am in love with it. Read moreAs usual, order downstairs n sit upstairs. There r standing seats downstairs. Capacity is not small but it's packed on a Monday afternoon. There r many youngsters eating but they r willing to share their tables with us :) Lighting upstairs is too strong, plus d low ceiling, making it v warm n uncomfortable to dine in.
Wait staff is attentive. he knows we tourists will struggle with d disposal n tray return for he gladly...
