Why only two stars you may ask? For couple of reasons here is why. As I Dane I expect more “traditional” or normal smørrebrød options. Firstly, where is the rye bread? You serving toast bread and call it rye bread? That’s should not be acceptable. That is the same as Scandinavian using brown rice or black rice for sushi. I ordered the 3 smørrebrød set, and two of them are sweet? How about you write it’s a desert and not lunch so my expectation is aligned. Please make a smaller menu. Cool and nice with a fancy menu with multiple options, but when literally over half of the things is sold out at 13:30 something is wrong. How about you hire someone who knows how to run a resturant. 4.The service was horrible. I make eye contact and wave, and what she do? Look at her fun and pretend she did not see me.
It’s nice to see danish concept in japan, and fair you want to adapt and make yourself unique. But get the...
Read moreThis is certainly not your ordinary sandwich shop. Walking up the grey stone steps of this historic library, past the yellowing walls with the antique light fixtures, and taking a right and down the hall with floors covered in non-slip material probably to cater to the more seasoned among us; one would not think to find such a trendy cafe that serves open-faced sandwiches in Scandinavian style. Everything they brought out had such a joyful splash of color - from the pumpkin soup they brought out in a dark cup to accentuate the orange hue, to the beet hummus they plated so beautiful with the sandwich. Every thing that came out of the open kitchen in the middle of the room was a piece of art; and so delicious too. It didn’t leave you stuffed but contempt and happy; like you just witnessed a beautiful performance... that happened to make its way into your stomach as a finale. Two...
Read moreAs a huge fan of anything Danish, I was happy to see a smørrebrød concept in Osaka! But... Where is the rye bread? This is the basics of smørrebrød (!) and I was really looking forward to it. The toppings are delicious, but served on light toast – which is honestly a let down. Second, the concept should contain local produce, which is another key aspect of smørrebrød. There is so much potential! For these reasons, I hereby demote this smørrebrød to smorrebored. We had some morning menu sets of smorrebored with 'homemade ham salad with daisen chicken', 'roast beef and remoulade sauce', which came with pumpkin soup, and iced coffees. The pumpkin soup was a bit too sweet for our taste. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I love the furniture, tableware design, and the overall vibe. And I love the fact that it is located in a library, making it feel...
