While this sushi chain is available in Singapore, I decided to try this for the first time in Osaka (the other reason was that this place has a shorter queue).
Despite arriving on a weekday after 8pm, there was a queue but fortunately being a solo diner, I had the option to choose between counter seat or table seats. I managed to get seated after a 15-minute wait since I opted for either type of seats. The wait for table seat will be longer.
There was practically minimal human interaction; get a queue number on the touch screen machine by indicating the number of diners and the seat preference (counter or table). A queue ticket number was printed out with a QR code. Upon the number being called, grab a cup, wet tissues and condiments (salt, spice powder) at the front counter and scan the QR code on another seat guidance machine - another paper known as the “payment and table guidance sheet” will be printed out with the indication of the table or seat number. Do keep this “payment and table guidance sheet” for payment later.
It was not hard to get to the designated tablet or seat number as it was clearly indicated, and directions guide were present. Once seated, I started ordering a few seasonal sushis and a soup using a tablet solely for the seat number.
I ordered these food (for myself) on my first visit: Premium red meat tuna sushi (2 pieces) Pickled sea urchin in nori (1 piece) Soy marinade yellow-tail (2 pieces) Hokkaido flounder sushi (2 pieces) 3 Fish sushi West Japan (3 pieces) Tuna pickled in rice malt sushi (2 pieces) Ikejime sea bream sushi (2 pieces) Ikejime young yellow-tail sushi (2 pieces) Okra and seaweed akadashi soup
Upon confirming the order, it was automatically served on an automated conveyor belt which will only deliver the right food to the right seat.
For the sushi, there was an option for a half-portion rice. Also, during my visit for a limited time, the rice in the sushi appeared to be seasoned with some sauce, most likely soy sauce.
All the food that I ordered was delicious, and reasonably priced. That may be the reasons why this chain is popular among both locals and tourists.
On my second visit, I ordered other food items from the menu, mainly: Premium otoro tuna sushi (1 piece) Salmon belly gunkan rolls (2 pieces) Yukhoe tuna with yolk and shoyu rolls (2 pieces) Seafood yukhoe rolls (2 pieces) Squid ume plum and shisho sushi (2 pieces) Shrimp, fish and vegetables tempura
Similarly, the sushis, rolls and tempura were delicious with the appropriate proportion for the price.
For the green tea, do help yourself with the matcha powder on the table. The table is equipped with soya sauce, sweet soya sauce or less salt soya sauce.
Similarly for the payment, no human interaction. Instead, confirm your order and press on the pay button on the tablet. Then proceed to the payment machine and scan the QR code on the “payment and table guidance sheet”. Select the payment method and make payment as needed.
Why a 4-star? Cos there was no human interaction at all - the only human that can be seen was for cleaning up the table or seats after the...
Read moreAs a foreigner who went to eat, if compared to another conveyor belt sushi restaurant in the same area that I went to, this place is quite different. It may focus on self-service and ordering food through the screen similarly, but the problem with ordering, which I don't know if it was a mistake in the ordering system or not, because I was confident that I pressed the order in time and received confirmation from the system for at least 4 dishes (counting from the missing dishes, the bill was 52 dishes in total, but there were only 46 dishes on the table). The tablet screen showed "Please receive the food that has been served", but no food arrived at the table. And the tablet did this at least 4 times. I tried to check if the conveyor belt food was served or not, but it wasn't. When I asked the staff, there was a problem with the lack of communication. In addition, the menu that I ordered only showed the price category, making it difficult to remember what I ordered (I remembered 2-3 dishes out of 4 dishes). The staff didn't check the number of dishes to see if they were all on the bill or not. But I don't blame the staff because they tried to communicate and did a good job. Thank you for trying to track down the food to get to 3 dishes, which the menu was as I remembered (but still not complete). Finally, I think that having a self-ordering and paying system is convenient, but if the system is wrong or the ordered menu is not sent to the kitchen This part may have been overlooked, so I would like you to consider this part because I have high expectations for Sushiro from my previous visits to...
Read moreWe went from Kyoto’s newer sushiros to the Osaka one was a huge downgrade in my opinion. We had went to a newer one that have 2 person interactive game touch screen - also allows for 2 person to order at the same time. So coming here to a older version that has stains, and stickiness on the iPads, tables, and just overall staff not really caring about cleaning the table, or the area makes it kind of gross and sticky to eat at. Their bathroom is also a bit smelly, which makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Don’t get me wrong, i love me a sushiro, but would i go back to this one? Probably not. I spoke with one of the staff who apologized as another staff walked away when I told them about sticky ipad and told me to clean it myself. I was quite disappointed at this place, but maybe it’s just Osaka is a different vibe from Kyoto? Or just...
